UNC Going Back To Basics After 0-2 ACC Start

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -- North Carolina has played two Atlantic Coast Conference games and turned in two anemic performances on offense.

Coach Butch Davis said Thursday that he's simplifying the playbook after consecutive ACC losses to Georgia Tech and Virginia. The Tar Heels (3-2, 0-2) averaged 164 total yards in those defeats, and that has some wondering if they've regressed in Davis' third season.

That futility has put extra pressure on a defense that ranks among the nation's best. North Carolina's D is eighth nationally in total defense and fourth against the pass.

They hope to have things figured out by Saturday's matchup with FCS member Georgia Southern.
