2012 NC State Football Schedule Announced

NC State will play six games in Carter-Finley Stadium in 2012, including three of the last four contests of the season, according to the schedule released today by the Atlantic Coast Conference.

In the month of November, the Wolfpack will play host to Virginia and Wake Forest, then travel to Clemson before closing out the regular season at Carter-Finley Stadium against Boston College on Thanksgiving weekend.

Tom O’Brien’s squad will open the 2012 campaign versus Tennessee on Aug. 31 at the Georgia Dome in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game. The Pack will open conference play on September 29 at Miami.
O’Brien and the Pack will face three of his former assistants who are now head coaches this season: Al Golden at Miami (Sept. 29), Virginia’s Mike London (Nov. 3) and Frank Spaziani of Boston College (Nov. 24).

“As always, we face a demanding schedule,” said O’Brien. “There are no easy games in the ACC and this year’s slate of opponents is definitely a challenging one. We are looking forward to the start of spring practice when we will begin preparation for another exciting year of Wolfpack football. It’s great that our fans all over the world will be able to watch the spring game on ESPN3.”

The Pack will open spring drills on March 23 and the annual Kay Yow Spring Football Game will be at 1 p.m. on April 21. The annual event, which has raised over $100,000 for cancer research over the past four years, will be broadcast on ESPN3.

Tickets are now on sale for all Wolfpack Club members (online only at www.gopack.com/renewtix). Paper applications will be mailed in mid-March and May 15 is the priority deadline for season ticket and Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Game orders. Payment plans have made renewing season tickets easier than ever. Fans can go to www.GoPack.com/paymentplan for more information.

O’Brien also announced that linebacker D.J. Green has been declared ineligible by the NCAA for competition during the 2012 season. He will be allowed to practice with the team.

Other notes on the 2012 Wolfpack schedule:

√ NC State will travel to Miami for the first time since 2007, when it opens conference play against the Hurricanes in Sun Life Stadium on Sept. 29.
√ For the first time since 1997, the Pack will play its first two games away from Raleigh.
√ State hasn’t opened the season with a neutral site game since the 1992 Kickoff Classic, when the Pack defeated No. 15 Iowa in the Kickoff Classic in East Rutherford, N.J.
√ The Wolfpack will not play a home game during the State Fair (Oct. 11- 21). The team is open on Oct. 13 and will play at Maryland on the 20th.

With the Citadel and South Alabama on the schedule- It looks like "Open" is only the third easiest opponent of the 2012 campaign.
