QB Sean Renfree's Time Is At Hand For Duke

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) -- Duke opens its third season under David Cutcliffe with a new quarterback facing high expectations.

Sophomore Sean Renfree will start against Elon on Saturday. He'll lead an offense that relied almost exclusively on the arm of Thad Lewis and three effective receivers last season.

The Blue Devils won five games last season, their best win total in 15 years. But they'll need to improve a running game that ranked last in the nation last season to give Renfree some help as he settles into a leading role.

The Phoenix went 9-3 last season and are ranked seventh in the Football Championship Subdivision poll. Elon quarterback Scott Riddle is trying to become the first player in Southern Conference history to lead the league in passing yardage for four straight seasons.

If Duke can just get passed Elon, then it means they should be able to crush the Tide in the 18th.
