Davis, No. 18 UNC In 'Holding Mode' Before Opener

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -- Coach Butch Davis says No. 18 North Carolina remains "in a holding mode" as he waits to find out if any players will be held out of Saturday night's opener against No. 21 LSU.

Speaking Wednesday during the ACC's weekly coaches' teleconference, Davis said he was unable to answer specific questions about the investigation into possible improper agent-related benefits and potential academic misconduct.

He says he can't say if he expects any eligibility decisions by Thursday because "that kind of falls into this entire review thing, and I think we're all in a holding mode as far as that's concerned."

Team officials canceled all scheduled media availability with players in advance of Saturday's game in Atlanta. Players had been scheduled to talk with reporters Wednesday afternoon.

This should have been a week about the excitement of the game, instead it's turned into about who's not playing. Who cares? Let's focus on the players who did it right and give them their credit and excitement leading up to the game!!! I'll support who ever is on the field wearing the carolina uniform. These fellows deserve the attention!
