Bowden Tells AP He Was Pushed Out By Florida State

NEW YORK (AP) -- Bobby Bowden tells The Associated Press he was "pushed out" after 34 years as Florida State coach and that his relationship with former university president T.K. Wetherell is likely beyond repair.

Bowden coached for 34 years at Florida State and says he had always had a good relationship with Wetherell.

But Bowden also said in an interview with the AP on Tuesday that Wetherell offered him the option of returning for one more season as "ambassador coach," giving control of the program to successor Jimbo Fisher.

Bowden declined and instead retired.

Bowden says now he doesn't want Florida State to "spread the story that I voluntarily, happily resigned."

He said of Wetherell: "I doubt I'll have a relationship with T.K. anymore."

As far as USF,i never liked them either. The Coach they had acted like a fool,Very Cocky attitude. Now they got Skip Holtz.Bet he will not ever have success there.I frankly hope He loses every game he plays & Gets fired. Sure he has the "Magic" Name, but that does not insure wins. While At ECU,Take out his Greg Hudson Defense & Chris Johnson as running back & How Good Would Holtz have Been? I Repeat,"I Do not believe he will win at South Florida".He is coaching in the big leagues(Big East) Now & At ECU He rarely ever won against The Big East & ACC Teams.Time might prove me wrong, but i watched him At ECU for 5 years & Saw ECU Struggle on Offense. His Offense was always Plain Vanilla.

Bobby Bowden should have never been pushed out, considering he led Florida State to 2 national titles. I lost all respect for Florida State since a year ago. Because of some of their moves and now hiring Jimbo, I'm now going to pull for Florida, Central Florida, and Miami all over Florida State. I would have pulled for UF and UCF over FSU regardless. As far as USF, I never like them at all since the 90's and I'd be alright if they tore down that football stadium that they and the Tampa Buccaneers share.

Of course he was pushed out! Same way Shanahan was pushed outta Denver and whats-his-face from San Diego in the NFL. Bowden was one of those coaches that I HATED during his career cause he always won! Now that he's retired I can finally appreciate the guy. Josephus, Tommy Bowden was an underperformer and couldn't get over the hump with Clemson teams that easily should have won the lowly ACC. The reason he had any success at all was the sheer talent on his teams, but he couldn't coach them to victory when the teams were evenly matched. That's why nobody has jumped to hire him since his being fired.

I Thought from the very beginning that he was pushed out.Guess 34 years means nothing.I bet you florida state will ever be as sucessful anytime soon.He was given the shaft for sure. He is a first class person & Deserved better that this.Possibly the best coach ever in college football. Son Tommy got the shaft at clemson also.
