Gun supporters aiming to extend the right to carry concealed handguns into restaurants and parks where they are now banned had their hopes sidetracked.

A measure to allow concealed-carry permit holders to carry their gun while visiting city and county parks was postponed Thursday in a House Judiciary committee. The sponsor also wanted to include state parks.

Supporters also want to carry guns when eating in a restaurant that serves alcohol. A permit holder could lose that right for having a gun where alcohol is sold. That bill was sent to a subcommittee.

Opponents said driving-while-impaired laws show people still drink when they shouldn't, and mixing gun rights with alcohol sales is a bad idea. Gun advocates said allowing pistols into more places might deter crime.

How dare any politician infringe our rights? Gun control is murder by proxy, and it is evil, and treason. The only laws about guns that are legal, are laws about when and why to fire said arms. Carrying is our business, not the traitor pigs'

There will be many comments about this from both sides of the fence. I'm retired Miitary, was a Deputy Sheriff for 14 yrs and currently a concealed carry instructor. There are a lot of people that carry firearms legally and many more that don't. No amount of legislation is going to protect you from the deranged antics of someone bent on doing something bad. Case in point the shootings in Carthage that occured this past weekend. We had a similar rampage here many years ago at a local restaurant. Under current law the only rights you have are to die at the hands of such a maniac. I never leave the house without a gun. Am I unstable? As I said before, I was a Deputy Sheriff for many years. It's about survival and coming home in one piece if I can have anything to say about it.

To scared mom: It is not all about being "as good" it's about having rights to do what my father and his father did taking care of our own. I hope nothing happens to you or someone in your family because you are scared of guns and don't want to be able to protect yourself. My wife and I shoot at least once a month and she can protect herself if I'm not there. Most people that have ccw spend alot of time at the range. Guns Don't kill people , people kill people and sometime the person that gets killed should not being doing what they were doing wrong!!!! I don't want to take a life but if is between someone killing me or my family I WILL take there life!!!!!!!!!
