Gun supporters aiming to extend the right to carry concealed handguns into restaurants and parks where they are now banned had their hopes sidetracked.
A measure to allow concealed-carry permit holders to carry their gun while visiting city and county parks was postponed Thursday in a House Judiciary committee. The sponsor also wanted to include state parks.
Supporters also want to carry guns when eating in a restaurant that serves alcohol. A permit holder could lose that right for having a gun where alcohol is sold. That bill was sent to a subcommittee.
Opponents said driving-while-impaired laws show people still drink when they shouldn't, and mixing gun rights with alcohol sales is a bad idea. Gun advocates said allowing pistols into more places might deter crime.

"Cindi Location: Simpson on Mar 20, 2009 at 08:29 AM I should not be FORCED to trust another in the safety of carrying a gun, when I patronize an establishment! I have a brother who is on a MENTAL Disability, yet he is allowed to keep his guns.Do you think he should be one of those gun toters in any establishment?NO =========================== Huh. So YOU KNOW your brother has a mental issue AND guns and YOU havent gone to the authorities yet? That makes YOU worse than YOU deem US who carry concealed, friend, because at least WE are the responsible ones who took the training and jumped thru the hoops to do the RIGHT thing. You'll have to forgive me if I have ZERO respect for you or your opinions.
"Anonymous on Mar 21, 2009 at 10:41 PM Don't worry. You rednecks will be able to keep your preciouys popguns. Now, the ammo will be a different story. I don't want to hear that judeo-christian enforced mindless rhetoric of "What if...?", either. The chances of any person being a crime victim are very slim. " ===================== And dont you worry about ammo either. The constitution protects guns and it will protect the ammunition for those guns as well. Your leaders have failed miserably in every attempt to control ammo since they found out that they cant take our guns. They will continue to fail because they are destined to.
David Location: Manteo on Mar 21, 2009 at 11:35 PM Why on earth would anyone need a gun on a playground or restaurant unless they are looking for or to cause trouble? A playground is for children not for ignorant people to walk around like they are big and bad with a gun. Another thing is that ALL of you who feel the need to carry a gun everywhere you go are weak!! I agree, guns don't kill people - morons with guns kill people. And those who must carry a gun to a restaurant or playground where there are innocent people are morons looking to just cause trouble and are the ones who care less about others and their safety. Why would a law be passed in the first place to allow guns in places such as parks and restaurants? What is the purpose/reason? That's why there is so much crime now is because these weak thugs who have to carry a gun to feel power and control over everyone else. ================================ Luby's...Texas...Hupp. Do your own research and you'll figure out why we carry guns into restaurants.
