CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) -- Just in time for Barbie's 50th birthday, a West Virginia lawmaker wants to outlaw the doll.

Democratic Delegate Jeff Eldridge is proposing to ban the sale of the Mattel doll and others like her in West Virginia.

He says the dolls influence girls to place too much importance on physical beauty, at the expense of their intellectual and emotional development.

He joins others who have criticized the doll over the years for promoting materialism and an unnatural body image.

Barbie turns 50 on March 9, and the toy maker has made big plans this year to mark the anniversary.

Ban all untrue s. Cartoons, science fiction and TV Evangelist. Ban all church programs. Make everything scientific. Let our kids see only what is real.

WOW, another way to waste taxpayer money and get your name in the paper! So, I guess WV's worst problem is that a doll is a bad influence on girls?

It seems Mr Eldridge did not get to play with his sisters Barbie so he wants to out law them. I'll bet he sings "I'm my own grandpa too!" He will not out law the blow up dolls but he wants to out law Barbies?? Next it will be the guns and knives and pencils and pens. This is a little snowball building up to be a big one! HGe needs to get a real job and get a life and try to help fix what is wrong with the U.S. He needs to do like all the other losers in the government Resign and let some hard working men and women run the government for a change . Not the ones who get all the pork. I am sick of hearing about the poorly ran government it is time for a change we can believe in. NO MORE pork barrel nor lobbyist bull. Get down to helping the real Americans!No bail outs for the rich! How about the ones who are losing their houses ? How about the Vets? Homeless ? The uninsured like me and a few million more?? This countries priorities are screwed! Need a change! Need to see it! And SOON!!!
