WASHINGTON (AP) -- A conservative political forum on Saturday sold boxes of waffle mix depicting Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama as a racial stereotype on its front and wearing Arab-like headdress on its top flap.

The product, Obama Waffles, was meant as political satire, said Mark Whitlock and Bob DeMoss, two writers from Franklin, Tenn., who created the mix and sold it for $10 a box from a booth at the Values Voter Summit sponsored by the lobbying arm of the Family Research Council.

Republican Party stalwarts Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney were among speakers at the forum, which officials said drew 2,100 activists from 44 states.

While Obama Waffles takes aim at Obama's politics by poking fun at his public remarks and positions on issues, it also plays off the image of the classic pancake-mix icon Aunt Jemima, which has been widely criticized as a demeaning stereotype. Obama is portrayed with popping eyes and big, thick lips as he stares at a plate of waffles and smiles broadly.

Placing Obama in Arab-like headdress recalls the false rumor that he is a follower of Islam, though he is actually a Christian.

On the back of the box, Obama is depicted in stereotypical Mexican dress, including a sombrero, above a recipe for "Open Border Fiesta Waffles" that says it can serve "4 or more illegal aliens." The recipe includes a tip: "While waiting for these zesty treats to invade your home, why not learn a foreign language?"

The novelty item also takes shots at 2004 Democratic nominee John Kerry, Obama's wife, Michelle, and Obama's former pastor, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright.

The Obama campaign declined to comment.

Asked if he considered the pictures of Obama on the box to be racial stereotypes, Whitlock said: "We had some people mention that to us, but you think of Newman's Own or Emeril's - there are tons and tons of personality-branded food products on the market. So we've taken that model and, using political satire, have highlighted his policies, his position changes."

The summit was co-sponsored by the socially conservative public policy groups American Values and Focus on the Family Action.

Yea VBush, a very important election and the liberals come out to play. They blame Bush who actually has been a very good and brave president. When he lost both houses to the democrats, is when we had problems with government. Most of these bloggers don't know that Bush isn't king of USA, just a policy pusher that doesn't always get his way. Yea, in the 4th, 5 mins to play and the democrats dropped the ball when they let Hillary go. Then McCain goes back for a pass, wide open in center field, Sarah Iguana is clear, the ball is thrown. Sarah catches it, runs right down the middle, jumps over Pelosi, darts around Reid and goes into the end zone. Republics win. The demies argued off the field. Said Sarah couldn't play because she wasn't eligiable and McCain was too old for football.

Snake Oil; It is amazing to me that the general public is drinking this 'kool-aide'. It is evidenced by the current polling data. McCain is losing his lead and they are pulling even again. The general population has no idea how government works, they just sit back and wait for sound bites. Anyone that thinks this is Bush's fault and somehow McCain is culpable is completely devoid of any intelligence. We are in the 4th quarter with about 5 minutes left to play. I surely hope this doesn't go into over time like in 2000 and 2004. The current controversy looks like no one knows what is going on up there. I really don't care about waffles, we have bigger fish to fry. All this yap about race, waffles, pigs and lipstick, and what ever other drivel they can produce is all irrelevant. Now we have a real issue on the plate and no one can do anything except point fingers, avoid the real problem and dump it on the taxpayer's backs. It doesn't look good.

Again, I will clarify the facts since some of you liberals have forgotten how gov works. Both houses are controlled by democrats. Check on it, you find it to be a fact. Secondly, they have the worst approval record in history. Third, they bailed the banks out, not Bush. The ABCs were brought to you by McCain-Palin for president...

America don't want Obama to be president, because he is black. McCain and Bush are friends, so that mean McCain is going to destroy people and this world. I promise you!!!!!!!!!!!!!I've already seen it.

You republicans are making me sick with your constant denial of having anything to do with the disgusting condition of this country. We know you never did anything good for American in the past eight years and for the four years DADDY BUSH WAS IN THE WHITE HOUSE , you are only fooling your self if you believe otherwise. This is the truth win or lose this election. If You win it will be because of the brainless scum in this country, same reason as always.

Posted by: lavon Location: kinston on Sep 17, 2008 at 08:02 PM
Ok please understand that you republicans have been in the white house for eight years now and look what has happened to this nation. Do you understand that?? You have no argument when it comes saying what your party is going to do for this nation. We've all seen first hand for eight years now what your party's actions have done. Forget it it's over for the republican party this time around. STOP!! BEING!! IN!!! DENIAL!! Oh yeah North Carolima is going to go democratic in november and you wont like it....

Don't talk about Obama's flip flops, maybe you need to take a look at the news tonight and tell US about McBush's flip flops on the bailouts of banks and lenders at the tune of billions of our tax dollars.

To:Kat....I so agree with you, dilemma dilemma! Except for Palin being in office instead of Obama or Biden. There we part opinions. Palin may hunt and kill animals, but I think she would be to emotional to lead this country. That's just my opinion. Good job on that analogy, it made me look at things from a different perspective.

A perfect example of Obamas waffling;during his entire political career, he has been antigun. He wants to ban handguns and so called assault weapons.( True assault weapons have full auto capability). Now all of a sudden he has waffled, flip flopped, whatever you want to call it, and he is running radio ads saying that McCain and himself(Obama)support your 2nd amendment rights.I hope no one is foolish enough to fall for these out and out lies.Just look back at his voting record. He is just trying to sweet talk everyone now and say what he thinks (or really what his political advisors tell him)that everyone wants to hear. I will say this, any president, Republican or Democrat that votes to take away the average law abiding citizens right to protect thier family, themselves, or thier home should agree to have the White house & Presidential Secret Service detail disarmed. If there is a problem at the White House, let them call 911 like they expect everyone else to do. Just my 2 cents.

Posted by: KAT Location: Washington on Sep 17, 2008 at 02:04 PM
VOTE McCain, the lesser of two evils. I don't want an inexperienced liberal dealing with what is going on in Iraq right now. Obama has 145 days experience and now he thinks he can be president. Do you work at McDonalds 145 days and become the manager? Do you teach 145 days and become the principal? Do you cash checks at a bank for 145 days and then become bank president? Think about this people, 145 days does not a president make. Obama may be a fine person but he will NOT be the next president. Race? Even if every black person in America voted for him, he would not be president. I'm not worried at all. McCain will win and hopefully make this Iraq fiasco go away quickly. I do not agree with Sarah Palin being VP but lets hope McCain holds on for 4 years. He's in remarkable shape so I don't think we will have a problem. But I'd rather have Palin in the president's office than Obama or Biden. Even Obama would be better than no brain Biden.

This is not a race issue but some are trying to turn it into one. Its a joke playing on the waffling of Obama. You know, no drilling, now drilling, new taxes, now only on the rich....it goes on and on. Its obvious to those who seek the truth on the guy, he will do and say anything to get elected. Then, watch out, he is a socialist liberal with and environmental agenda and it doesn't have you saving any money in mind.

Posted by: Carmen Location: K-Town on Sep 17, 2008 at 12:26 PM
I am republican and I can say this is wrong. Race should not have anything do with it. I thought that when you turned adult that things like this are not suppose to go on. I guess they have the minds of children. They need a babysitter.

I don't think that I have been publishing lies on this posts. I just have let people know that I am not one of the DOPES. For example, Dems Okd drilling off shore 50 miles out. The oil is less than 30 miles out. What this means, is take your car and put it out in the sun, let the wind blow on it and the wind and solar should fill it up according to Obama. If is doesn't work for you just write DOPES on your forhead. If that doesn't work for you, go put gas in it like everyother working person at $399 a gallon.

To Obama Snake Oil, Every one knows Alaska is dark half the year without sunlight. Only a subnormal intelligent person would use a tanning booth to get light. OOPS we are talking about a subnormal intelligent person right? Snake you lie more than any one here. You ask for facts all the time, why ask for something you already have, remember you are the fact finder of America. "FOOL THE FACT FINDER" LMAO

Posted by: Obama Snake Oil Co Location: Washington on Sep 17, 2008 at 08:51 AM
If lies are being told on Obama, I want you to list one. I do not follow the DOPES guidlines and rely on research. This sometimes relies on Fox news and others to find the truth. Like the big story now is Palin has a tanning booth in her house and she helps fight skin cancer. Wow, this is big. I am sure it will swing voters to Biden. Just a little detail for you; Alaska is dark half the year without sunlight. You just might want a little light. Oh, and her daughter made a mistake. Yet Biden has a history that media is keeping silent on. DOPES are trying to feed deception. Rob, work on you acronyms, still a little rough. Pickens is a democrat...

I posted about DOPES for witn and sure enough we draw some out. I forgot to point out that political satire (joking) was not allowed by the DOPES. It is their canidate and it simply isn't the same as lipstick on a pig or McCain doesn't know how many houses he has. I warned about anger and rhetoric. They are trained in the art of deception.

This just in; the group that says W killed soldiers, lied, that McCain is more of Bush and Palin is a Redneck is now exposed. The group is called DOPES (Deomcratic Obama Party Euphoria Speculators) They have all received appropriate training by the liberals of Ayers, Soros, John Edwards, Pelosi and Reid. They are doing an outstanding job of creating rumors, lies and deceipt to voters. Their favorite line is "McBush" which is a dead give away to that training. Warning, these people think we think like them but they are only 15% of the population so there is not detrimental danger, just some spitting hate and anger. If you see one of these people, walk away, they are there to spread the latest rumors and half truths given by the trainers. Yall have a nice day!

But I guess in order to make intelligent statements one must have some intelligence to begin with.

Good point, Kitty. I like to think of what the late George Carlin once said-"If you have selfish, ignorant citizens, you're going to get selfish, ignorant leaders." I believe it's up to the liberals, Democrats, and we progressives to work together to keep McBush and the Witch (I'm only off by one letter here, but WITN won't allow that word in the intrests of political correctness) out of the White House.

To stopthemadness, I agree with you 100% but you need to put a lot of the blame on the leaders of America. When your government kill innocent people by hundreds of thousands and has absolutely no justification for it, that is wrong. God bless the young men and women in America

Posted by: Kitty on Sep 15, 2008 at 07:10 PM
Well I guess the Republican are right about one thing McBush and McPalin are good together. They both have dysfunctional family's. McPalin with her illegitimate grandchild and McBush being with a wife he committed adultery with. It does my heart good knowing they are nobody's.

It is very sad to see much hate in America. Have you people ever thought about why this country is in the shape it's in. bECAUSE WE HAVE TURNED FROM GOD! Read, 2 Chronicles 7:14. It is sad to think that some of you call yourselves christians (or church goers)and harbor so mu hate. You have to be miserable to hate this bad. I honestly feel sorry for you. This is 2008 and you still can't get over the color of someones skin, no matter how qualify he or she is. We all need to pray for America and the world because the worse is yet to come. I can't believe that so many people want 4 more years of the past 8. Stop the HATE and mud slinging and PRAY for America. I know someone will make a mockery of what Ihave said, but be careful. God see all of this hate. STOP THE HATE AND PRAY (you know we need to). BE BLESSED.

I'm suprised that Barrack and Michelle Obama haven't been referred to as "Uncle Ben and Aunt Jemima" yet. And leave it up to the Family Reserach Council, which is another unofficial office of the Republican Party, to come up with this. Will anyone come down on Palin and her disfunctional family? Certainly not the FRC! They will send John Hagee or Joel Osteen to comfort her and Toddy in their time of need whn Bristol delivers a bundle of joy. Let's hope it's in Alaska where this witch belongs and not in Washington.

Bahhhhhhhh, sheep. McCain and Palin were awesome choices as both are get it done people. You just don't get how government works. It is the senate and house democrats that have the country in such a wreck, period. Less than 12% approval rating, get it. This is why McCain and Palin will clean house in both parties. Speaking of hypocrits, I see that certain WITN editor(s) are filtering out certain comments again and letting unproven accusations be posted. And James, typical liberal response. You make a statement that turns out to be stupid then you say"Oh, I'm sorry, that's not what I meant". How about some proof that Bush is a draft dodger. Never heard "coked-up" used in reference to a draft dodger before. Is that new?

Posted by: James Location: Greenville on Sep 15, 2008 at 09:50 AM
I'm sorry everyone, when I said coked-up, I meant draft-dodger. Anyone saying Obama has had it easy this election is so full of it, they could roll around in my yard and watch it grow. Giant media outlets like MSNBC and Fox News do nothing but gripe about whether Obama is wearing a flag pin, or whether he is a "secret Muslim". Because practicing a different faith is clearly a sign saying "Hey! Discriminate ME!" This country is bass-ackwards when there's more uproar about what a candidate wears than when a VP hopeful lists "living in Alaska" as foreign policy experience.

Posted by: The Facts Location: Greenville on Sep 15, 2008 at 09:33 AM
To Trucker, Have you ever NOT been awarded a job you applied for because of your color? Well I have, and I'm also white. Its called REVERSE DISCRIMINATION, not getting a job because a person of color needed to be hired(token). It happens EVERYDAY. Oh how many times have I seen this; a person of color gets the job even though they are not qualified. You might ask how I can tell if the person is not qualified; when that person can't do the job and much of their job responsibilities are redistributed to the rest of the work force. That's the big difference between most of us; it seems you people think that you deserve or are entitled to any job that's open, even if you're not qualified. I believe in the RIGHT way, the most qualified candidate should receive the job, no matter what race you are. So you can take your "find out what discrimination is like" crap and go elsewhere. Oh yea, we're all still waiting for some positive FACTS as to why obama is worthy to be president.

Trucker, spoken like a true hypocrit. Maybe you haven't heard of age discrimination. I guess you don't get out of the truck very often. It is just another type. Reminder, Obama-Biden will not make it this years election. Learn how to say McCain, you will be hearing it a lot for the next 4 years followed by Palin. Obama is a waffler who in all interviews speaks like a lawyer, very cautious and goes whatever way the wind blows. I call them like I see them and while I'm at it the american people are moving away from Obama because they know that Hillary Clinton was the choice he should have made for VP. If he was afraid of having Hillary as VP what choice would he make in the fight against our enemy's to run and hide. HE SHOULD IN THE CHOICE OF HIS VP THAT HE DOES NOT HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO BE PRESIDENT. Obama is afraid of Clinton and took the high road. I am a woman who believes he is weak. There really is no room for this type of sophmoric prank, especially so close to a critical election. How about John McCain's ties to the coked-up, drunken Middle-East bomber George W. Bush?

Posted by: alex Location: vanceboro on Sep 14, 2008 at 08:08 AM
this is no more offensive than putting lipstick on a pig. there was no more ill intent in this than in Obama's statements. Had they mentioned Rev. Wright's racist profane remarks, or Obama's relationship with convicted felon Tony Rezco, or even Obama's ties with the happy bomber & racist Williams Ayers..then that would be over the top!

Wait, did I miss something? I don't believe John McCain or Sarah Palin were out there selling waffle mix. Every political party has their rednecks. The Democrats don't have a corner on that market.

Some posters here and people that view this as a racial attact need to lighten up. Waffles are not pancakes, get it? Whether he has big lips or not is not racial, this satire is done all the time. OK, so Obama has big ears, so what, many have big ears. Libs are looking for anything. How desperate they have become. Well, I like waffles, I don't like Obama for the waffles he does almost every day. No one knows what he believes in or stands for, since he changes as required. You cannot convert from muslem to christian.

This was pretty stupid, not funny to me. This is something a republican would do, proud to say I'm a democrat!

To Obama 08 4 prez 9/13 at 10:53PM. Who cares about your Expectations ??? Not Me !!

Lee .... Two things we haven't monopolized is welfare and gang violence ... :-)

Posted by: Obama 08 4 Prez! on Sep 13, 2008 at 10:53 PM
I'm not surprised, I have low expectations for some republicans...especially Newt Gingrich and Mitt Romney. To those two men, and I use that lightly, act like this is just a game. Do you realize how childish you have to be to stoop down to this level? It would fix them if the company that carries Aunt Jemima sued those idiots. And those boxes aren't worth five cents even if Obama is elected for two terms. Not as long as you can go on the website and order 2 boxes and get 1 for free. McCain had his bots do his dirty work so he could act like he didn't know. Obama's camp of course won't respond, why? Because someone has to be the bigger man...key word being "MAN". I thought you always kept your crazy people in the attic or the basement, and right at the end of the election the republicans let these two fools loose? LOL What were you thinking? ~Sigh~ Anyway, thanks from the Dems....your 2 crazies did more for use than any speech Obama or Biden could ever give.

See Obama does have a future selling Waffles.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 13, 2008 at 09:26 PM
I was wondering when they would put stuff up on the internet of Obama with big lips, well any way, now we have all seem what is on your mind. can we please just get back to this country problem.

Posted by: Not funny Location: NC on Sep 13, 2008 at 09:03 PM
I am as anti-obama as one can get but that is just plain stupid and w/o any place in modern politics. Redneck aholes

Posted by: Anonymous Location: greenville, blvd on Sep 13, 2008 at 08:51 PM
I see that haterd is making if face to reopen again. hope someone will stop this kind of junk. just stick to what we need to know about the future, not racism ok.

It's funny who cares if the libs or offended?

Posted by: Doug Location: Relaxing down by the river on Sep 13, 2008 at 07:53 PM
Those boxes would be worth more if Obama were President. Too bad he hasn't got a chance.

Posted by: Lee Location: New Bern on Sep 13, 2008 at 07:44 PM
This is just one more tactic by McCain campaign to prevent Obama from winning the presidency. McCain has absolutely no consideration for the welfare of this country - look who he picked as VP. He is an elderly man, and should he died while president, Palin would be the pres. Let's get a democrat in the White House and take back our country. This is a diverse country - white people need to stop monopolizing everything. Go Obama.

Posted by: Tom Location: Wilson on Sep 13, 2008 at 06:16 PM
No one and I mean no one not in this campaign or the last with Kerry has 'waffled' more than John McCain!

Posted by: Obama 08 on Sep 13, 2008 at 05:39 PM
I'm glad he declined to comment. He's got more class. I hope he never stoops as low as the other side with all of their stupid childish games and lies. Stick to the issues.

Posted by: James Location: Greenville on Sep 13, 2008 at 04:47 PM
How is this news? If anything, it's promoting this childish product. Perhaps we should start making bedpans with John McCain's face slapped on them. These immature antics have nothing to do with the real issues at hand.

Posted by: Mr. Bob on Sep 13, 2008 at 04:37 PM
Obama was a muslin before converting to christian. This was so he could get into politics. Better watch out for this person.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 13, 2008 at 04:29 PM
"actually a Christian" Someone better tell him so he will get it right in the next interview and not have to be reminded by the host that he is Christian. By contrast, when Obama referred to his "Muslim faith" on Sunday and did not correct himself, Stephanopoulos rushed in at once to help him and emphasize that the senator had really meant to say his Christian faith.

Posted by: what nerve on Sep 13, 2008 at 04:01 PM
McCain and the stupid people voting against Obama have nerve to do stuff like this. Most idiots voting against obama mush love Bush and his policies of killing our americans, having an economy going to hell, and no morals. McCain and his selfish wife Cindy McCain ...by the way, she comes off doing chairity work, but it is just like a republican,,,doing nothing except behind backs. VOte for Honesty and Integrity back in the white house...obama biden all the way.
