Palin: A Pit Bull With Lipstick Save Email Print

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Greeted by thunderous applause, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin presented herself to the Republican National Convention on Wednesday, and millions of Americans watching from home, as a small-town outsider ready to join John McCain's ticket in waging "a tough fight in this election against confident opponents at a crucial hour for our country."

"I will be honored to accept the nomination for vice president of the United States," she said in the convention's most anticipated speech. The 44-year-old, self-described "hockey mom" still awaits formal nomination for the second spot on the ticket.

With those words, the crowd roared - and the flashes of thousands of cameras reflected off her glasses.

It was the crowning moment of a roller-coaster week in which the first woman ever on a Republican presidential ticket has faced questions about how closely the McCain campaign scrutinized her. She also has heard a wide range of inquiries about family issues, her policy positions and her record of public service.

Palin took crowd-delighting swipes at Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama and what she called the "Washington elite."

"The American presidency is not supposed to be a journey of 'personal discovery.' This world of threats and dangers is not just a community, and it doesn't just need an organizer," Palin said, a clear reference to Obama's time as a community organizer in Chicago.

And to the media that had closely examined her record, she said: "Here's a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I'm not going to Washington to seek their good opinion. I'm going to Washington to serve the people of this country."

As she concluded her speech, her family and then McCain greeted her on stage. "Don't you think we made the right choice for the next vice president. What a beautiful family," McCain said to loud cheers.

The Obama campaign had less than a warm greeting, saying Palin's speech was "written by George Bush's speechwriter and sounds exactly like the same divisive, partisan attacks we've heard from George Bush for the last eight years." The speech was written by Matthew Scully, who met Palin for the first time last week.

Selected by McCain only last Friday, Palin addressed the convention amid questions about her qualifications and relative lack of experience.

The first-term governor had top billing at the convention on a night delegates also lined up for a noisy roll call of the states to deliver their presidential nomination to McCain.

Watching her speech were her husband Todd and their children, including 17-year-old Bristol Palin, whom the Palins disclosed earlier in the week was five months pregnant. Bristol Palin's 18-year-old boyfriend and apparent fiance, Levi Johnston, was seated with them.

McCain shook up the presidential race by picking Palin, a little-known governor less than two years in office. Since then, a bright spotlight has been trained on the life and record of the Republican governor who has bucked the state's political establishment.

Days after Palin made her debut on the national stage with McCain, the campaign announced her unmarried daughter's pregnancy. Other disclosures followed, including that a private attorney is authorized to spend $95,000 of state money to defend her against accusations of abuse of power and that Palin sought pork-barrel projects for her city and state, contrary to her reformist image.

"Our family has the same ups and downs as any other ... the same challenges and the same joys," she said.

Noting that the couple's oldest son, Track, 19, was shipping out to Iraq in eight days with the Army infantry, Palin praised McCain as "a true profile in courage, and people like that are hard to come by."

"He's a man who wore the uniform of this country for 22 years, and refused to break faith with those troops in Iraq who have now brought victory within sight. And as the mother of one of those troops, that is exactly the kind of man I want as commander in chief," she said.

Largely unknown outside her home state, Palin told the convention: "I had the privilege of living most of my life in a small town. I was just your average hockey mom, and signed up for the PTA because I wanted to make my kids' public education better," she said, speaking of her home town of Wasilla, Alaska, with a population of about 6,500.

"When I ran for city council, I didn't need focus groups and voter profiles because I knew those voters, and knew their families, too," she said.

Before becoming governor, Palin served as mayor of Wasilla, she recounted, adding: "And since our opponents in this presidential election seem to look down on that experience, let me explain to them what the job involves. I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a 'community organizer,' except that you have actual responsibilities."

In another barb directed at the Illinois Democrat, Palin said: "Here's how I look at the choice Americans face in this election. In politics, there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers. And then there are those, like John McCain, who use their careers to promote change."

Palin, a proud hockey mom, asked the crowd if they knew the difference between a hockey mom and a pitbull. Her answer? Lipstick.

A former TV sportscaster, Palin delivered her speech in a firm, cheerful voice. It was her first chance to introduce and define herself to the American public and to explain to fellow Republicans how her experiences as Alaska governor would help galvanize the GOP ticket.

She strongly endorsed more oil exploration and drilling. "Our opponents say, again and again, that drilling will not solve all of America's energy problems - as if we all didn't know that already. But the fact that drilling won't solve every problem is no excuse to do nothing at all," she said.

Palin has been an aggressive advocate for drilling in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, while McCain opposes drilling there. That difference was not touched on in the speech.

I have noticed the liberals are saying publicly that McCain is too old. I am pretty sure this is "age discrimination" isn't it? So, now I have to vote for McCain since liberals are discriminating against him. And also, Palin is too busy to help run the country, Alaska must not have much for her to do. This woman will be the next president after McCain. Why, because she will not tolerate the liberals in either party and the deception or corruption. Even Geraldene Ferro likes her. You want change, its coming near you.

Gov. Palin is Commander of the Alaska National Guard. Alaska is the first line of defense in our missile interceptor defense system. The 49th MDB of the Alaska National Guard protects the entire nation from ballistic missile attacks. It's on permanent active duty, unlike other Guard units. As Gov. of Alaska, Palin is briefed on highly classified military issues, homeland security, and counterterrorism. Her exposure to classified material may rival even Biden's and certainly by far exceeds Obama's. She's also the commander in chief of the Alaska State Defense Force (ASDF), a federally recognized militia incorporated into Homeland Security's counterterrorism plans. Palin is privy to military and intelligence secrets that are vital to the entire country's defense. Given Alaska's proximity to Russia, she may have security clearances we don't even know about. Palin is used to keeping national secrets and has been, as verified by many sources including State of AK and US Army websites.

First Gary, you are not a republican and probably never voted that way. You slipped up with using Mcbush, the standard liberal response. Secondly, Palin and McCain will be your next pres-vice pres in office. This is a good thing for the US. I posted Obama's add from Utube. If you saw this and still say you won't vote for a republican you are just another liberal posting on this board like you are offended. This country will not take another Jimmy Carter for president, yes, that is what Obama is. Destroy the military, leave Iraq to the vultures and make us weak as a country at a time of danger. I guess liberals just don't want to acknowledge 2000 deaths on 911. That anniversary is Thursday in case you want to acknowledge it but you won't. I am a registered democrat but will vote my country, not my party this year. You should learn more about the canidates, objectively, or not vote.

Obama Snake Oil Co.; That is the #1 reason BAR NONE that make the Democrats SO dangerous. I watched the video, and like every other liberal wack job....he wants to slash defense and render us basically defenseless. With the statement he made on that video, I will never believe he would actually be tough with anyone. He was talking semi tough with O'Reilly the other night when he was drilling him on foreign affairs. Carter almost ruined us...Thank GOD for Reagan. Clinton did a job on our defenses as well. If Obama was elected, ....I don't want to think about it. Thanks for pointing out the video and putting up the link.

Anonoymous in Greeville posted this link but I think it is important for all to see. We wonder where Obama stands on the issues and here you go. This isn't spin, McCain campaign or anyone else, it is Obama in his own words to what he wants to do with America. If you are for or against him, you should watch it. You can conclude whatever you want but this is the real guy and he makes his convictions pretty clear. It is terrifying what he would do to this country, especially if both houses are democrat. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7o84PE871BE

I learned one thing being a republican,i will never vote another Republican in office. The last 8 years ,tell something VP dick C. was involved in. Palin is more quick to react than obama! cause she dosen't think things through. right now she is sitting high/mighty. but give it some time see how she works under pressure.god forbid something happens Mcbush .who knows what she will do. ,If she was such a good governor of alaska Why is gas over 4 dollars and taxes so high!

The term 'flip-flop' is being beat to death. As if no one can ever change their minds about anything. All politicians make claims about how they would handle certain situations and what they are going to do once elected. They find out when they get there that it isn't as easy to accomplish as it appears. They are also privy to information on the situation that they did not previously know or understand. It is possible to change one's mind from time to time. If you change your mind as a politician, you owe it to the people that put you in office a public explanation of WHY you changed your mind. You owe it to them because they have voted for you based on that position in many cases. If you explain yourself, you just might bring the voters 'with you'. People do change their minds. Changing your mind on core beliefs is not recommended, but if you do.....you ABSOLUTELY owe a detailed explanation as to how and why you came to that decision. Haven't any of you ever changed your mind?

By the postings on this blog, the liberals are really deperate. Face it, the DNC didn't bring regular, decent and honest canidates to the table. They brought a Jimmy Carter, Kerry Edwards types again. If you think these people are normal Americans, you are the problems in the DNC. Since there isn't a level playing field, the DNC has come up with lies. Yes, they are the one telling the lies they accuse Bush of doing. Yet, when asked for the facts, it turns out it cannot be traced to the facts. So, the big story is Palins got a pregnant 17 year old daughter and McCain didn't know how many houses he had. This is it? Now with Obama we are supposed to be stuipid and not ignore what he has been doing up until he got busted. Wright, Ayers and Rezio....actually, Biden is cleaner than Obama, his only problem is he is against national security.

Posted by: Mary Location: Edenton on Sep 7, 2008 at 10:32 PM
Jonathon - you are right if you count all votes above disapproval as approval. 63% of Alaskans "strongly approve" of her performance. Amazing how you ignored all of my other facts. What sort of rebuttal do you have for those? And I haven't touched on her political flip-flopping or her outright lies as she campaigns. If you believe in your candidate, then be an adult and debate it with facts.

ITA Army Brat, especially with your comparisons and questions. I think we need just a regular person with regular problems in office--someone that can identify with every one, not just the elitists.

Posted by: ??? Location: NC on Sep 7, 2008 at 09:01 PM
Sorry if I offended anyone. Just got carried away when others were making gay comments about Republicans.

I think it's refreshing to see another woman going for an office. She seems like a regular mom Pregnant teen, son in war, baby with disabilities. We need a regular old mom to run this country then maybe we can save some money. What's the big deal if she hunts?Who cares really. At least we know she can defend herself IF NEED BE.I personally like the idea of having a president who has served this country in the service. At least we know he'll SALUTE our flag.I think that it's an embarrassment to America for the preson running for president not to salute our flag. Obama wants change and is a great modivator but so was Hilter.Wake up people. It wouldn't matter if he was purple with orange polka dots if he acted like he respected our country and our troops. How can he expect our family's to protect him and everyone else in this counrty if he doesn't respect them. And 1 more Question why don't we see or hear much about his white family?Only that is is Black Well HELLO he's part white too!!!!!!!!

Talon see we can agree on something and disagree on another, that makes us human. You are very welcome, and I have toned down because of something you said. Your words made me step back and look at what I was saying. I'm Democrat but my husband is Republican. Its been that way for 18 years. We realized loooooong ago we couldn't discuss it with each other. Just one thing I would like to clear up with you, I'm female. But I understand how you would confuse me with a man. I'm not weak, and I hold no prisoners. Thanks for the eye opener, not ALL republicans are bots, who would have known? No need to answer, its a rhetoric question! :)

To gotta love it: do your homework it was clinton not bush that signed the NAFTA agreement and what you call rant is a first hand experience. My family lost a 72,000 a year income when my husband was forced out of the textile industry.Nafta sent almost all of American industry oversees along with our jobs . He reeducated into the medical field but now only makes half of what his income once was.He had been in textiles for 28 years and at the age of 48 had to go back to school.Go to Walmart and try to find a product made in the USA I promise you won't find many or drive to Mt Airy NC and you will find abandoned buildings where booming textile and furniture industry once was.Read up on the Nafta aggeement and you will see who has created this downward spiaral.I'm pro Palin because I think a woman with a little balls is better than what we have now.

Man, the comments here! Tarheel Not Redneck, what exactly do you mean? We all live in a beautiful state here. Do you mean that anyone who you disagrees with you should leave? That's a pretty intolerant statement, but maybe you just got caught up in the fervor here. What do you consider to be a redneck? A hunter? A farmer? A blue collar worker? Or maybe just someone who disagrees with you politically? Comments like yours and McPalin=Meh's just fire up conservatives and drives them to the poles. Don't you realize that? Discuss the facts and issues and drop the insults and condescending tone, please.

I'm not sure which is the larger problem, Radical Islam around the world or radical liberal stupidity here at home. When all of your reasons not to support McCain/Palin are lies, you have to be wrong. The liberal bots commitment to treachery, pushing misrepresentations and lies is truly amazing. It illustrates how a Lenin, a Hitler and a Mussolini came to power in Europe. The liberal's desire to eliminate all dissent should scare people instead of making them want to mindlessly follow a community organizer straight into a depression and moral bankruptcy. Vote McCain/Palin for change. Fight Chicago style corruption, reject the fraud obama.

Posted by: Obama/Biden on Sep 7, 2008 at 05:43 PM
Lies, what lies? I haven't seen any lies here. I just saw where she has now decided to do an interview with ABC. They are protecting her from "the wrong news media." Get use to it Sarah. Don't protect her, she's a tough redneck woman, let her show her true colors.

To McPalin = Meh., You are 1000% right and you put it so well too. We need more comments as well written as what yous is written. I drive from coast to coast and word is McBush is going down hill fast and still a long time till Nov. Just one more thing I don't care who McPalin is now let alone two months from now LOL.

The liberals are angry because their posterboy Obama will no longer be the leader of the US. Devil Dog is 100% correct with his comments. Obama would be more of the house and senate that has gone on for two years, nothing. Again, I remind you that a vote for Obama is a wage cut. Taxes and higher gas prices. Just remember that and don't whine about it when it gets to $9 a gallon, you brought it on yourself. Party blinders are a terrible thing to have. Denial is a terrible thing to do. I am democrat but will not vote these choice losers into office. I know better, why don't you? Research people, get away from party supported bs websites and learn who you would be voting for. I am glad we live in a red state because you can vote all you want for a liberal and the conservatives alway shine.

Alot of worried liberals here. Do you honestly think making up lies about this woman will sway anyones vote in November?

President CARTER gave away the Panama Canal and OBAMA and BIDEN will give away the USA. People should be happy with MCCAIN, because he is going to construct his cabinent with Republicans, Democrats and Independents. OBAMA and BIDEN will have a bunch of Big Government LIBERALS. PEACE through STRENGTH wins every time.

2 weeks ago, nobody knew who Palin was. In 2 months, nobody will care. Remember, even reich-wing idiots that people have heard of, like Santorum and Ashcroft eventually fell off the face of the earth- Palin will, as well. There's no history books being written here. She's nobody- a mayor from a hillbilly village of 5,000 people, with a horrible record, at that- she left that down $20 million in debt, and has numerous investigations against her. Why you people are so quick to fight and die for her is beyond me. Pitbull? LOL. More like toadstool.

Posted by: Tarheel, not Redneck. Location: NC on Sep 7, 2008 at 04:20 PM
Anon- agreed. It's also time to stop glorifying the whole "redneck" thing. Only in America would someone be proud of being unread, uncultured, ignorant, racist, homophobic, drunk and scuzzy... on top of that, call themselves "christian" and listen to horrible music. It always surprises me how we live in a beautiful, coastal state, with endless beaches, and we have these miserable rednecks. I mean, this isn't like.. Alabama or West Virginia or something, or for that matter, Wasilla, AK, the "crystal meth capital" of Alaska.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 7, 2008 at 04:05 PM
Sylvia, being a tough redneck woman isn't what it takes to "run the White House" as you put it.

How can anyone expect McSame to lead the country, when it's obvious that he can't even remember to brush his teeth? Nasty! However, those yellow chompers can't even compare with his breath- a bunch of us met him a few months back at a campaign stop, and my God did the man reek of dragon breath and old man. My sister-in-law was wondering if he wears diapers- he has that kind of smell about him. He belongs in a nursing home, poor old senile man.

Check out the big mouth on donna. I just wonder what someone else being a vegetarian has to do with her insane, screaming limbaugh rant. I guess she can't handle the fact that NC, as well as the entire US is turning blue. It's even funnier how she blames Clinton, when he left office nearly a decade ago, with tremendous success after 12 horrible years of republican rule. Oh, and donna.. you may want to check out Clinton's economic record vs. Bush's, in everything from the defecit to unemployment. PWNED!!

Mr Eleganza, you have been watching too many cheap doomsday movies and trolling the liberal blogs for lies. Either you made up that garbage or some other liberal bot did. The mainstream media is still in the tank for the fraud obama. But even with them working overtime trying, they haven't come up with a mole hill to build your imaginary mountain out of. Only a real "A-hole" proliferates completely made up and unsubstantiated accusations. Check the latest polls, if you are as silly as you seem to be you may start building a bomb shelter. obama is an arrogant, overbearing fraud and people are finally realizing how unqualified and dangerous he is. You mindless sheep are desperate and frantic already, you're pulling out the old "nuclear holocaust" scare tactic early this time. Just stay calm, there will be plenty of fantasy and action films for you to watch after McCain/Palin get elected. Nobody will force you out of imagination land. Vote McCain/Palin for real change!

Posted by: Jess on Sep 7, 2008 at 02:53 PM
Mr. Eleganza. I think people should really pay close attention to what you said. She (they) scare me to death. If they win we will never begin to make peace and gain the respect back we have lost from around the world. It's going to get worse for sure. People need to wake up.

To Talon: Thank you for your comments! Radical Islam is the problem that faces the world's future, not just America's. Their (Radical Islamics) desire to control the world can be traced back through the history of the world and through the Bible. I wish some Americans would wake up and see what's really going on with this organization! As far as anyone wanting to start the next war...look at that little man in Iran, he wants to blow Israel AND the USA off the map! I hope our next president knows his world history and the Bible cause he's gonna need it. I pray daily for God's protection and guidance over America and Israel. I will vote for McCain (I'm a registered democrat) because I feel he will wisely lead us. and the Rapture??? I'm looking forward to it!

A vote for McCain/Palin is a vote for nuclear holocaust. It's that simple, folks. Not only is this duo viewed by the world, by both our allies and enemies as an incompetent, war-mongering joke, but Palin has made no qualms about her desire for bringing about the end times. Soo, let's lay it out, nice and simple: A vote for Obama is a vote for peace, prosperity and America being viewed positively and with respect. A vote for McCain is a vote for global nuclear war, and the death of mankind. If you want nuclear war, go rent "The Day After," the early '80s movie.. it's available on DVD. That is what the McCain/Palin presidency will look like. Only a real A-Hole wants that.

The repub. party handlers are keeping Palin off limits to the public for about a week or more. Why? She is not ready to saliently discuss policy- domestic or foreign, obviously. And some of you think that she is ready for the White House when she ain't even ready to address a soft ball interview with script planted firmly in hand?

Posted by: TRUCKER on Sep 7, 2008 at 11:36 AM
To Mary, I have been on here for a long and I see that if you prove something the attacker never responds to you proof, if he responds he will have to admit he was wrong and that will never happen. There are a lot of people on here that does the same thing. I found out in life some people think they know everything and some times they don't know squat.

Jonathon - you attacked my post on facts about Palin. You asked for sources of my information and called what I posted a bunch of lies. I responded with back-up and sources for my comments/facts. Do you have anything to say about that, or are you just going to ignore facts so that you can prattle on about other inanities?

To Anon on Sept 6th, Personally I do not care WHAT COLOR they are, if they are able bodied , yet sitting on their duff drawing "a check..." while I SLAVE away then I have a problem with it. Sorry, but it is people like you that propagate that race thing. At least we have a common vested interest on wanting those OFF welfare & OUT of our pocket. Rather than making it a race thing we would better serve our common interest by coming together. Watch out though, those welfare types are very cunning, crafty, creatures & would not want us to unite our cause. Democrat FOR McCain/Palin '08 LESS GOVERNMENT!!

"I have never seen anyone more unqualified for one of the two highest offices in this country." I have: Barack Obama! Now he's out of his league. Just don't drink the grape Kool-Aid when the picnic in the valley comes. It amazes me the Obama camp has been able to "Brainwash" so many Americans by saying he wants Change. To bad he does not have the experience to know what he is talking about. How pathetic.

To Obama 08 4 Prez!, I have heard a lot of people refer to God as their God. Most people think of God as a friend and you refer to a friend you do not refer to them as our friend but my friend. I think people on this site is all to ready to nit pic what other people say. You need to be happy this person believes in God I am.

To Obama 08 for prez: Republican, Democrat, liberal, conservative, lies, insults, smears, it all just fades away when Jesus Christ enters the picture. We may not vote the same way, but if we have accepted the grace and forgiveness of Christ we are all brothers and sisters. Thanks for your kind comment brother. You made me look at my own comments and see that I was letting my own self pride lead me into making some pretty nasty statements. I may not agree with you politically, but you are still my brother. I thank you for allowing the Lord to speak through you and set me straight. I'm still voting for McCain/Palin and you may be voting for Obama/Biden but that's of this world and is really not important in the over all scheme of things. See you at the Rapture, brother.

The post from Sep 7, 2008 at 1:35 AM is a classic example of the open minded liberal. Everything you said is sexest, racist, classist and completely stupid. You would never talk about liberal people like that. The anti-white racist term "redneck" rolls out of your sewer with ease. I'm sure you would never say the dreaded "N word" though, because that would be wrong. What an ignorant hypocritical mindset. There is no need to search your memory through "all your years of following politics" to find someone less qualified than Gov Palin for the two highest offices. Just look at your ticket and you will find a community organizer at the top of it. You support a guy who would be a trainee at any job he was hired for, with the exception of community organizing of course. Maybe you shouldn't look at your ticket, if your stomach is as weak as you describe, looking at obama's lack or qualifications, socialism and connections with racist phony preachers might make you hurl. Vote McCain

Everything that I have seen and read about this woman makes me sick to my stomach. I can't imagine anything worse that a vice president trying to handle the day to day duties of that office while trying to change diapers on a Down's Syndrome kid. She can keep her NRA BS, her pregnant daughter, her soon to be PTSD son, and her redneck husband Todd (which is a name I dispise)and stay in Alaska where they belong. I'm sure this will tick off some of the Lifetime soccer moms and NASCAR dads who love her, but this gal is a joke. In all my years of following politics, I have never seen anyone more unqualified for one of the two highest offices in this country. She is much better suited for one those godawful "reality" shows.

Let's face reality here for once. It's time to realize that the poster girl for the neocons, her flag waving running mate, and the Democratic Duo are in the pockets of who really runs this country- big business and the corporate-owned media. The election is a simple formality. I'm sure that High Holy Priestess Oprah and Rupert Murdoch have already struck a deal.

White 38.8% Black 39.8 Hispanic 15.7 Asian 2.4 other 3.3 Get your facts correct before spouting out inaccuracies. But Libs and Democrats always do this so it is understandable. And as far as all of this Bush bashing goes you all have the right to your opinion, but have we been attacked after Sept 11th?, Have we freed a nation from a dictatorship? Look at history for a minute during every war period we have had an economic downturn and have have extreme prosperity following it. History will be written and Bush will be known as one of the best presidents ever.

I agree Dianne. She is on the cover of every magazine with her down syndrome baby and her small daughter trying to get sympathy votes. She doesn't look like a pitbull on those covers. She wants us to take her seriously and think she could possibly run this country, yet she is begging for mommy votes. Pictures are circulating around the net of her and her daughter that would make Bill O'Reily blush. She's not so nice. And just like guns, the bad guys still get them without a permit. Females will still get abortions if its overturned, but that won't happen. Republican hypocrites, you can't please you, its OK if you get pregnant when your young, (accidents happen), so don't get an abortion, but once you have that baby don't get on welfare because we don't want to help you with it even though we said have it. We threw you to the wolves. Fine folks those republicans, fine folks indeed.

You were brave my friend, you said something your going to take a lot of heat for. But anyone who has more brains than a grape knows your right. That's the reason mixing religion and politics isn't a good thing, it shouldn't be done but it always is. You can pledge allegiance to the flag but can't pray in school. This is the ONLY blog that I've been to where if you don't agree with the majority then your wrong and they want to gang up on you as if that will change your OPINION. LOL As if they can't understand the concept of opinion. Most post come down to insults, lies, and more insults. Good Job!

So having a teenage unwed daughter who is pregnant makes you qualified to be Vice President of the US? Get a grip, people. Nobody ever heard of this woman until last week. This is Republican hypocrisy to the highest degree. They whined all week about the liberal media unfairly reporting on her family. Did you check out every magazine cover at the supermarket this weekend? Sarah Palin and her family front and center on every cover, with their approval. Now tell me who is exploiting her story. You need to realize the Republican party is using you for sympathy votes. If you people are proud you put Bush in power for the last eight years, then by all means vote for this crowd again.

I can also read between the lines. Do your homework. There are more white people in america which means there are more white people on welfare. Black people are tired of working and taking care of your welfare recipents as well. Or did some of you forget that fact. Practice what you preach. Before you come down on one group make sure your group has their act together.

Bad News, Bush sr. was only in office for 4 years. Abortion is here to stay, just get over it. If you don't to have an abortion then do not get one. No politician/judge is going to repeal Roe vs. Wade. Besides there are more important matters than abortion. To Talon, about the guns, I know a lot of "democrats" who are well armed too. I say "democrats" because I am not sure they really know where they fall on the political spectrum, sort of like the other 80% of Americans. Also the God from the Bible is a hack. If I owned the universe, I diffently would not hire him/her to manage it. Why are the Isarealites considered God's chosen people? Isn't that favoritism? Wouldn't that kinda nullify the Bible? Is this why Christians are always whining and angry? This is exactly why I do not use the Bible as a roadmap in life. I would end up in a ditch! Flying Spaghetti Monster 4 Life!

I can sure tell that the polls are trending toward the McCain/Palin ticket and the libs are reeling. obama is stuttering and sounding less and less sure if his lies are being taken seriously by anyone other than the truly stupid. The media is still in the tank for obama and desperately combing through every thing and person who ever came near Gov Palin in Alaska, looking for some dirt to try and save the campaign of the socialist community organizer. The mindless sheep on this blog are sounding monotonous, throwing out one lie or misrepresentation after another, hoping something will blow up on the blogs and become the next big falsehood to do some damage to McCain/Palin. America is slowly catching on, obama is arrogant, unqualified and deceptive. He is just a master of oratory slickness who talks and talks, mesmerizing the witless, but never really saying anything substantive. The "ONE" is a complete FRAUD!

To My God, I guess "your God" decided to appoint you as his spokesman. Who do you think you are? Radical Islam has declared war on Israel, God's Holy Land. The Jews, whether you like it or not, are his chosen people. We are fighting this war on radical Islam, not only to protect ourselves, but to help to protect God's chosen people. Now I don't claim to know His will, but consider this; Maybe, just maybe, the god that you believe in is not God himself. Maybe the god you belive in is the one who controls this world (for now). Maybe you have been deceived by the prince of lies. Maybe you are worshipping and imposter, who is not god at all, but a who is really nothing more than a fallen angel. I don't claim to know God's will, but you are apparently the follower of somthings will, like many secular progressives. Your belief in "your" god maybe very dangerous to your soul. I maybe wrong. Now I'm a laid back easy going kind of guy, but when I see comments like those from Luke, Janice and Chelsea67 that are so filled with hate and spite, well it makes me mad. So maybe this election will finally draw the line between us. The right and the left and after the voting is over, maybe we can just go ahead and have a civil war. Is that what you idiots want? You certainly talk that way. C'mon this is an election. Let's talk about issues and drop the insults and lies and spitefull comments. If we keep this up we really will end up like some 3rd world country having a civil war. And if that happens....well you PETA loving, gun controlling, liberals....well your gonna lose. Sorry. To @@@, This is NO REFERENCE to YOU, yet some of the posts are very difficult to follow. It actually scares me to think that those individuals have the right to vote. It is sad that we can not trust our candidates running for office. Palin's appeal to me is that she is from one of the furthest reaches from DC, and appears fearless. She has had a lot (family, career...) to juggle and gives the appearance of managing very well. I for one am willing to give her a chance. As for the business as usual mentality, anyone that has watched McCain over the years MUST realize that he is NOT a Bush clone. McCain has paid his dues and also deserves the chance. The other 2 candidates just have not impressed me as much. Obama has a lot of potential, but came barreling out of the gate about 10 years too soon. Are there any competent democrats left in America?

To Chelsea(9/6/08@11:43am): God ordered the Israelites to war in the Old Testament. To Everyone: take the time to educate yourselves on the issues, the folks running and then make your decision. AND, stop this hateful bickering amoung each other and the nasty comments about this election. Both parties have faults/problems and not one of them can/will do what they promise. Palin says she felt safe flying to Alaska to have baby By Rebecca George Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at 12:07 a.m. Gov. Sarah Palin’s decision to make the eight-hour flight from Dallas to Anchorage has some people wondering about the possible safety hazards of flying while in the late stages of pregnancy. The governor, eight months into her pregnancy, noticed amniotic fluid Thursday morning prior to giving a keynote luncheon address at the Republican Governor’s Energy Conference in Texas. After wrapping up the speech, Palin and her husband consulted with her physician about possibly flying home on an earlier flight. After being granted permission from her doctor, she and her husband proceeded with the trek home. At that point, Palin was only having minor contractions and was not showing signs of active labor, Sharon Leighow, the governor’s spokeswoman, said on Monday.

I agree with what some of you are saying- her brutalization of animals is beyond hunting- she is sadistic and cruel, takes pleasure in the pain and suffering of God's creatures. Gunning down wolves from a helicopter, with an assault rifle is not hunting, it's murder. She is very sick, bloodthirsty and cruel. She is twisted to the point of being satanic. Disgusting.

sd, you hit the nail on the head- republicans have absolutely ZERO ideas or plans- all they have is hate, bigotry and flag-wavin' fanaticism. Furthermore, to many people, all that matters is that she's "pro-life." Yeah... seeing as how she slaughters animals for entertainment and calls the war in Iraq "God Approved," we see how pro-life she is. And another thing.. to you rabid pro-life people, how many unwanted/crack/rape/deformed/disabled children have YOU adopted this year? If it's not at least a half-dozen, in 2008 alone, you're a HYPOCRITE.

Considering that this no-name, racist, bigoted, homophobic, animal-slaughtering, violent extremist is applying for a job in which WE, THE PEOPLE do the hiring, I think it's about time Americans are not only skeptical, BUT DEMAND quality leadership. Palin is psychotic, an admitted drug user that can't even manage her own family- the new pics surfacing of her kids drunk and holding bottles of booze, not to mention the one being knocked up are proof of that. When you republicans cry "oooh youre picking on her," How to you expect her to sit down with someone like Putin, or any other world leader? She would be disgraced. This is a very dangerous situation - she's made no qualms about it that she wants to "bring about the apocalypse." A vote for Palin is a vote for global, thermonuclear war.. it's her true ambition.. bring about the "rapture" and the end times. F that!

What it really boils down to that alot of your comments is saying about obama is you don't want a black man in the white house, wake up and smell the coffee it is time for a change and stop putting him down and go and look at his records as well as biden. Everyone wanted bush and cheney and looked what happened to this country, then everyone wanted them out. If you got so much knowledge why don't you all run for office. If obama had picked her and mccain picked biden you people would really dog him out. What kind of record does she got that biden don't have, he has been around longer and have more experience. I see it everyday at work alot people don't like mcCain and palin but they don't wanna see a black man in office so they say they will vote for mccain.People get over it those days of trying to hold the man down is over. African americans help build this country now let a african america run it.

By RINDI WHITE rwhite@adn.com Published: July 25th, 2008 01:53 AM WASILLA -- Settlement is in sight on a 9-year-old court battle over land on which Wasilla's Multi-Use Sports Complex is built. Anchorage Superior Court Judge Peter Michalski on Monday signed an order giving developer Gary Lundgren $314,739 in attorney fees and court costs in an eminent domain case the city filed against Lundgren's land in December 2002. In eminent domain cases, the plaintiff typically pays the defendants' court fees. Combined with $837,000 that the city paid last year for the raw land and another $362,000 in interest payments paid in December 2007, the total price tag for the 80 acres comes to $1.5 million. Ci
