"Religious Right" Energized By McCain/Palin Ticket Save Email Print

Sarah Palin already has energized conservative religious leaders who had fretted that John McCain would pick an abortion rights supporter as his running mate. The Alaska governor was raised in a Pentecostal church and has called herself "as pro-life as any candidate can be."

To Richard Land of the Southern Baptist Convention's Ethics and Religion Liberties Commission, Palin is "straight out of veep central casting." Land said he had urged the McCain camp to consider the political unknown.

Gary Bauer, one of McCain's most enthusiastic evangelical supporters, said the Arizona senator had hit a "grand slam home run" and that adding Palin to the GOP ticket is "guaranteed to energize values voters."

The 44-year-old mother of five, who led her high school chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, was baptized as a teenager at the Wasilla Assembly of God Church, where she and her family were very active, according to her then-pastor, Paul Riley.

She now sometimes worships at the Juneau Christian Center, which is also part of the Pentecostal Assemblies of God, said Brad Kesler, business administrator of the denomination's Alaska District. But her home church is The Church on the Rock, an independent congregation, Riley said.

"The church was kind of a foundation for her," said Riley, who said he gave the invocation at Palin's inauguration and had her address students at the church last month.

Maria Comella, a spokeswoman for the McCain-Palin campaign, said Palin attends different churches and does not consider herself Pentecostal.

As a politician, Palin has sided with the majority evangelical view in opposing gay marriage and expressing a desire to see creationism discussed alongside evolution in schools.

During a 2006 debate, she said she was a proponent of teaching both evolution and creationism in schools. She later clarified her stance in an interview with the Anchorage Daily News, saying that she doesn't think creationism needed to be part of the curriculum and that she would not push the state Board of Education to add such alternatives to the state's required curriculum.

Not only does Palin oppose abortion as a matter of policy, but she chose to give birth to her youngest child, a son, after a prenatal exam indicated Down syndrome. Studies show that about nine in 10 pregnant women who are given a Down syndrome diagnosis have chosen to have an abortion.

"That will resonate in a big way," said Quin Monson, a Brigham Young University professor who studies religion and politics.

Focus on the Family founder James Dobson, who initially said he could not vote for McCain but has since opened the door to an endorsement, called Palin "an outstanding choice that should be extremely reassuring to the conservative base" of the GOP. Dobson added that the ticket "gives us confidence he will keep his pledges to voters regarding the kinds of justices he would nominate to the Supreme Court."

"It's an absolutely brilliant choice," said Mathew Staver, dean of Liberty University School of Law. "This will absolutely energize McCain's campaign and energize conservatives."

Staver called Palin a "a woman of faith who has a strong position on life, a consistent opinion on judges. ... She's the complete package."

A Pew poll last week showed McCain leading Democrat Barack Obama 68 percent to 24 percent among white evangelical Protestants. But there was little enthusiasm: Only 28 percent of white evangelicals call themselves "strong" supporters of McCain, far short of President Bush's numbers four years ago.

Many evangelical leaders said McCain helped himself with a solid performance at Pastor Rick Warren's Saddleback Church, where McCain proclaimed, "I will be a pro-life president."

Mark Silk, who specializes in religion and politics at Trinity College in Hartford, Conn., cautioned that while evangelical leaders are praising the Palin pick, it might not necessarily trickle down.

"The question is how this will be received by a lot of rank-and-file evangelicals who are just Americans struggling along, going to their megachurches, and care about values," Silk said.

Some question whether old-guard traditional leaders, like Dobson, hold as much influence as in the past. The evangelical establishment never warmed to former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee's candidacy, but grass-roots evangelicals contributed to his big win in the Iowa primaries.

Evangelical leaders got worried when McCain floated the possibility of a vice presidential candidate who supports abortion rights, including Sen. Joe Lieberman or former Homeland Security chief Tom Ridge.

By choosing Palin, "McCain is saying to social and religious conservatives, 'I'm taking your views incredibly seriously,'" said Michael Cromartie, director of the evangelical studies program at the Ethics and Public Policy Center in Washington.

As a democrat voting for the right canidates for this election, I am yet to hear one serious flaw for either McCain or Palin. I see facts on Obama that says no. I see facts on Biden that says not. I don't blindly follow a party like a sheep. Bahhhhhhhh, you should understand that.

To Obama Snake Oil, Believe what ever you want, I don't give a rats A** what you think ok? But I have never had my entire POST EDITED OFF the site before lol

Posted by: Obama Snake Oil Co Location: Washington on Sep 10, 2008 at 11:47 AM
I tried earlier to post a response but the editor took it out. Just to milk the snake venom out of you fangs, you did not post one single lie or fact to support you post other than the "standard" party response "Bush Lied". This means as a viper, a deadly snake, you have no posion, just party rhetoric. This is why liberals have no credibility, they don't know where they stand just that they have one. The one given by other liberals. Not very creative. You must buy snake oil from my company, it cures everything that hurts, makes you feel better and even cures warts. We also sell hurricane seeds and change you can believe in seeds. I need only one lie I can believe in. I have already heard one from Obama, change, I have about $.35 in my pocket and he wants it.

Posted by: The Great Pit Viper on Sep 9, 2008 at 04:31 PM
I am a liberal, I am the one liberal that dares to post that "Bush lied" not only that he lied over and over again and again, so baby get over it. Bush is one of the most low life people I have ever known in my life time. I must tell you I was not born yesterday so I have had time to meet a lot of low lives. Most of the people that did work under Bush "GOT THE H**L OUT OF DOGE" hum wonder why, could it be because he is lied 24\7, I think you all need to worry about McBush and stop thinking about your Bush Baby he is a president wannabe, he just never cut it.

VBush, when Palin was selected it caught them completely with their pants down..no, that was Bill Clinton, another fine example of a liberal. Obama goes toward the center because that is is last chance. I hear Obama's camp is complaining that McCain Palin is using Change in their campaign. I guess Obama got a trademark..no, seems all of the liberals used that remark. Not one liberal dares yet to post about "Bush lied". The correction should read the dems in the house and senate lied. I sure hope the government gets those "change in government seeds" ready soon. There better be some instructions on how to use them. Voter never reads instructions....thanks

Posted by: VBush Location: MHCY on Sep 8, 2008 at 04:46 PM
Obama Snake Oil Co.; There are a lot of loons on here, but I enjoy the engagement. I also enjoy when a liberal is obviously enraged by one of my posts. I will have to say that some of them get me going as well. You and Voter had a few folks wound up with your "Hurricane Seed" banter. I enjoyed that. I will say that I listen to what the left has to say, but they make very few arguments that I can support. I will also say that the CNN reporter Cambell Brown, interviewing Tucker Bounds from the McCain camp (last week)made him look like a complete idiot. She was asking legitimate questions and he was doing the left wing two step. Oh well, we can't win them all. When someone posts something about religion ruining this country I just have to overlook them. They don't even have a basic understanding of our history. I notice that every time Obama opens his mouth he moves closer to the center. The far left got him the nomination, but they can't get him elected and he knows it.

Posted by: Obama Snake Oil Co Location: Washington on Sep 8, 2008 at 03:54 PM
VBush, I have caught a lot of your postings in several location and find them quite amusing. I posted under Hanna about Hurricane seeds with Voter. A lot of people on this board are a few fries short of a happy meal. One even posted that religion is what is ruining the country. WTH? It is what brought the country together. I guess this person wants the country to go apart. I only post to Trucker to let em know I think for myself and do not follow party lines. Yes, I am a dem, but not a liberal. I have not been brainwashed and become the liberal zombies some of these bloggers are. They need to get an identity. I am glad that Palin's first bill is to open the season on liberals in the US in November.

VBush you are nuts

Obama Snake Oil Co.; You are wasting good brain cells with Trucker. His/Her bumper sticker mentality is as good as he/she will ever get.

Posted by: Obama Snake Oil Co Location: Washington on Sep 5, 2008 at 10:32 AM
Actually Trucker I have and did. I voted for Hillary in the primaries. I am registered democrat. I voted for Bill's first term. You are right about my party not wanting me since they are alienating (this means pushing us away) democrats. We are not liberal but I have seen your posting of hate and vile. I vote for "who best will serve my country". Unfortunately, its not Obama Biden. Both are questionable integrity. I guess if you are a liberal you can ignore Wright and Ayers (Obama was on the board of) and the other shady things this guy has done. I don't want these type of people representing the democratic party but that is what is being shoved down my throat. I voted for Bush too by they way, Kerry Edwards...get it. Now, proof that George Bush lied. You have not proof.

Posted by: P****D O*F Location: Nc on Sep 5, 2008 at 10:26 AM
To VBush, His name is Sandy Berger NOT Sandy Berge and who are you to say who should be in prison, just tell me that.

Posted by: VBush Location: MHCY on Sep 5, 2008 at 08:51 AM
To P****D O*F; Here is just one example of your proof...Sandy Berger. He should be in prison. The left wing machine of the Clinton's protected him.

Posted by: TRUCKER Location: NC on Sep 4, 2008 at 09:55 PM
You know Obama Snake Oil Co, I bet you never voted democrat in your life and that is great because we don't want you in our party any way.

Posted by: Obama Snake Oil Co Location: Washington on Sep 4, 2008 at 01:41 PM
Blaming the democratic house and senate for corruption, yes, they are the ones that control it, ask Pelosi or Reid, is just not fair. They are first to jump on Bush for any small thing they can find. You hate Bush, he lied, yet the house and senate go democratic control has the worst approval rating ever. You need to clean up the democratic party and the corruption will go away. The party of Kerry-Edwards...now Obama Biden? This is why I will vote Republican this election. I don't trust the chosen ones. Still, I wait for proof that George Bush lied. He did, it was George Washington and a cherry tree, sorry, wrong George. The party sure holds a grudge.....

Posted by: P****D O*F Location: NC on Sep 4, 2008 at 10:26 AM
To Obama Snake Oil, You know as well as I do that you or I can not come up with proof of any wrong doing this government does. I don't care what party you belong to. This country has one of the most corrupt governments in the world and you ask for proof? My friend where the H**L have you been all YOU life, I feel real sorry for you but I do hope you stop asking for proof of something that not one of US can give most of the time but my friend the truth does come out sooner or latter. Just it will with Bush, a lot has already come out and you know that. Not one of you know even half of the corruption that goes on in this government. This entire election is built on corruption. Without corruption we would have no election bottom line. All said may I ask who you are that we need to prove anything to you anyway.

Posted by: Obama Snake Oil Co Location: Washington on Sep 4, 2008 at 08:40 AM
Again, I am awaiting the proof that Bush lied and time goes by. I guess you cannot prove it since you just revert to Bush lied as a party line. You have no proof period. Palin is awesome. Liberals are running scared because this woman represents "America". You know, the country we live in. Get to know her, you will see her for a long time to come as she goes after your corrupt politicians in the democratic party and some republicans as well. There is a new sherrif in town.

Posted by: SAME OLD, SAME OLD Location: NC on Sep 3, 2008 at 10:57 PM
Palin sounds just like Bush and McBush, "FOUR MORE YEARS OF THE SAME OLD THING" People, America can not afford four more years of he Bush agenda being carried on via McBush and his sidekick.

To Anonymous, I think so too :)

Posted by: LOL Location: NC on Sep 3, 2008 at 09:01 PM
Palin was in charge of Alaska's natural resources assets until she found out there was corruption and she quit. ..." I wonder if she quits the VP job when she finds out how much D**N MUCH corruption is in Washington :)

Right on TRUCKER.. I think you and I could be good friends. :)

Posted by: God Fearing Location: NC on Sep 3, 2008 at 08:40 PM
To Obama Snake Oil, It is a proven fact that peoples religion has caused more problems from the beginning of time than any other cause of hate, killing and war, known to man kind. Yet you bring religion into every thing that America does. Does this even give any one a clue of what has gone wrong in the world, I don't think so.

Posted by: TRUCKER Location: NC on Sep 3, 2008 at 05:55 PM
To Jess, You know I think you are right on that VBush :)

Posted by: Obama Snake Oil Co Location: Washington on Sep 3, 2008 at 04:24 PM
I wait and wait for one liberal to prove that George W Bush lied. Yet it is engrained in their very souls that this happened. Bush will go down in history as a leader that led us through a very tough time of our countries history. Notice none of us are speaking muslem, yet. Well if Obama.....he does have islam on his Birth Cert. I am not religious right but it is involved with the fact this country was founded on religion. I want leaders that have strong belief in their religion. This is because he will be different from mine but similar moral beliefs. This is also someone that has integrity and honesty. Normally.

Posted by: Anonymous Location: NC on Sep 3, 2008 at 07:13 AM
To VBush, 1.You know life is not about me or my literacy level. 2.Life is not about who I vote for. 3.To tell you the truth life is not about me at all. 4.And that is good because life is all about YOU get my point? 5.Have you ever considered that I never put a lot of thought or effort into talking to you because it would be a total wast of my time. 6.YOU take care just the same, I will be back when my literacy improves :)

Posted by: Rob Location: NC on Sep 3, 2008 at 12:28 AM
Well put, Obama Snake Oil. By the way, I love your name. You are right. The country and the election were bought, paid for and sold a long time ago. Nobody- McCain, (Palin), Biden, and especially Obama- don't care one bit about the voters or the country. All they care about are their own idealistic political agendas and their corporate kickbacks. And as far as blindly following leaders, my favorite quote in world history is this- "The people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them that they are being attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country."-Hermann Goering at the Nuremburg War Crimes Trials in 1946. I hope that a lot of people remember this. VBush and Obama 08 For Prez! especially.

To McCain Snake Oil co., I do not have blind faith. I disagree with McCain and quite a few Republicans on many issues, I just disagree with the Liberals on the left more, and on almost everything. My beef with the Republicans just hasn't come up here yet. I actually haven't voted for anyone that I actually wanted in the White House since Ronald Reagan. All the rest of my votes have just been what I call 'Damage Control'. I also disagreed with Reagan on a few points. Here is my MAIN REASON for voting Republican....The Republicans always keep our military strong. As long as we remain strong, then we can fight amongst ourselves about the rest of it. If we become weak, then at some point someone may take that ability away from us. If and when that day comes, none of us will be sitting here going back and forth about what we like or don't like about each others views. THAT IS A FACT. The Democrats ALWAYS cut our military. Carter almost ruined us.

First off, flaming is what 3rd graders with internet access do on message boards. Adults actually debate things and not insult. Second, blind allegiance is not good. That is what many of you on this board have especially VBush. Questioning our leaders is the most patriotic things you can do as an American citizen. No leader is perfect. Bush and the Democratic congress have failed the American people. Third, 99% of the elected officials in Washington do not care about you, so why would you care about them to the point where you cry and whine when somebody insults your them? It is really pathetic. If you want to root for something, just pick a sports franchise because the Washington establishment is not going to change things. Fourth, please conservatives keep your religion at home or at church. It does not need to interfere with the American government. Fifth: Nobody is a true Conservative or liberal. It all comes down to each individual issue.

Posted by: Anonymous Location: NC on Sep 2, 2008 at 07:16 PM
VBush, You know I don't think VBush is you real name and I am a Republican thank you. I am unapologetic for anything I have ever said or done in my life. To those pro-lifers: Do you even care what having the child would do in some situations? You want a person raped to have that child, so they can what stare at the child in hate for the rest of their life? Or even better give the child up for adoption so they can feel bad the rest of their life for doing so? All you completely pro-lifer's make me sick. You only think of it from a stand point of a child that really isn't a child yet. You do not think of it from the raped person, or the child having a child, etc. I for one would have rather him picked someone that wasn't so hard cord pro-life and pro-church for that matter. Church is used to control you and that is all. I may be a republican but I do NOT agree nor will I ever agree with most of their views on abortion, church, etc.

To Anonymous; or whoever you are, apparently you don't know whining when you read it or hear it. I'm not whining, I am simply stating facts. I am just wondering, why you libs always post anonymously? Are you ashamed of your position or opinion? I am totally unapologetic for how I feel about anything. I also don't care who knows it. I actually relish an argument with anyone that can actually present one above a 5th grade level. Another qualification is that you are literate. As far as the mid-west floods not killing anyone, there is a reason for that...THEY DIDN'T SIT AROUND WAITING FOR THE GOVERNMENT TO COME AND GET THEM. I will have to assume the IQ in the upper mid-west is higher than it is in New Orleans. I would also have to assume that the work ethic is higher as well.

To Dwayne, You have got to be kidding me, Democrats know what is going on. We are not wondering what exactly happened, we know what happened. McBush wants Hillery's votes and it won't happened, oh he may get a few of them because there is always a few D**B A***S around. He could have picked someone smart to help him get them, not very many of WE women are as dumb as McBush and Palin are. Sen. Clinton will still be working with US and so will President Clinton. "YES WE CAN"

Posted by: Obama Snake Oil Co Location: Land of Freedom on Sep 2, 2008 at 11:02 AM
Lets clear something up here with some facts. Bush did not lie. Get it, read the "facts". This is the same liberal myths. Secondly, McCain is different in that he challenges left and right. He is not Bush. You libs just have to have a whine to go with your cheese. Palin is an excellent choice for vice president, that caught you off guard. Just remember its the liberal agenda to do away with religion in everything. Have you forgotten that, we haven't. Have you forgotten liberals want to kill the unborn? We, the not silent majority anymore, have not.

To Obama 08 4 Prez. I have read several of your posts and have to wonder why WITN allows such racist comments as yours? To Person; EXACTLY! The mid-west floods were barely over with for 7 days and we heard no more about it. It went totally off the radar. I am sure those people are STILL trying to recover and yet we hear nothing. When Katrina was over we were still hearing about it 2 years later, and with Gustav, we are talking about Katrina again. Those people up there are making their way back to normalcy with out headlines and continuous non-stop whining. I wonder how long we will be hearing about Gustav/Katrina now? I wonder why that is?

obama 08 4 prez, would you prefer "mindless sheep"? That's what I'm really thinking, I was trying to be nice. Be a thinker, not a obama "bot". Vote McCain/Palin for change that won't rob us of our money and freedom. obama 08 4 prez, are you still chasing that dragon?

??? i don't know what black person has offended you to make you so racist but its a shame. Your missing out on some great friends. There is bad apples in every race, but every time I read one of your remarks its always racial. If your not married cut off your mullet and ask out a black female. If you are married cut off your mullet and spark up a conversation at work or McDonald's, anywhere. You might be surprised to find that all black people aren't on welfare and some black woman are actually beautiful and intelligent. At least that what my husband told me.

Tad stop using my word "bots" that's what I call republicans.

These comments are unrelated to this article, BUT while you are on the subject. Did any of you help the flood victims in the midwest last year? YOU don't hear them screaming about aid from the government.

Posted by: VBush Location: MHCY on Sep 1, 2008 at 06:55 PM
To People Stand Together; That is the problem with you libs, THE GOVERNMENT DOES NOT OWE IT TO YOU TO BAIL YOUR DUMB *SS OUT OF ANYTHING! Self reliance is something you idiots will never ever understand unless you are forced to accept it. Why is it that you people think the government is supposed to wipe your butt every time something happens to you?

Yes Rob and I just now saw on TV that she got her a lawyer, she is crying around already pore little thing D**N that never took long LMAO

To VBush, Yes we know how government is supposed to work but that does not hold true with this government never did and never will. You think what you wish but don't tell me how to think or how to vote.

Palin is too busy with her own idalistic political agenda to monitor her own family.

Posted by: People Stand Together Location: NC on Sep 1, 2008 at 05:23 PM
To Vbush, That is not the truth, they ask for help from the federal government and never got it. The federal government owed those people that lost their homes and their lives in Katrina more than they got. If it had been in another country Bush would have been right there passing our tax dollars out hand over fist. Don't you ever tell us we don't know how this government works, we know all to well, and some Republicans feel the same way about this

To Anonymous, It is way to late for Bush or McBush to do anything for most Americans. You know I was taught as a child, it gets to late to do things that need to be done. Eight years is way more time than it takes to make things "BETTER" for Your country not the rest of the world. "YOU ARE A FAILURE" you have accomplish nothing in eight years. talk about taking handouts from the tax payers you an expert at it, now that is something he is good at, getting payed for doing nothing. Obama\Biden 2008

Posted by: hang it up on Sep 1, 2008 at 04:39 PM
THE GRAND OLD PARTY IS DEAD!! what a laughing stock!! between all of the lies bush and cheney have told all through the years, and now mccain is showing that he is not much better. Please, think long and hard. we can't take any more lies. Obama and Biden will bring honesty and family back to the white house and to america. Bush and cheney have done nothing for the religious right, so stop acting like it is a big deal. the big deal will be an Obama-Biden win in November.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 1, 2008 at 03:52 PM
VBush. You are right, there is nothing Bush could do to make me happy now, it's way to late for that.

Posted by: TRUCKER Location: NC on Sep 1, 2008 at 03:30 PM
To Rob, You got that right, they said McCain knew about it when he picked Palin. McCain is just full of little surprises. Looks like Palin's kids play more games than soccer LMAO

Posted by: Rob Location: NC on Sep 1, 2008 at 02:47 PM
The religious right is probably going berserk right due to the news of Palin's daughter being pregnant and unwed. What a fine example of a mother. Sounds like Britney and Jamie Lynn Spears mom.

Posted by: Tad Location: Jamesville on Sep 1, 2008 at 01:12 PM
The main reason Katrina relief became such a disaster was two mindless democrats, Mayor nagin and Governor blanco were left in charge of the effort. This time Louisiana has a better leader as governor, the feds are running more of the effort and nagin was told to stand up and say what he was told to say and avoid being a problem this time. nagin's decisions were made for him by the Bush administration to avoid him screwing everything up again. Liberal "bots" never miss an oportunity to distort the truth and spin your tales. Speaking of cake, Hillary and Bill are going to let alot of you liberals "eat cake" during the 2012 presidential election. They will remember how they were turned on by so many of the obama "bots". As much as Bill did for you libs, what a treacherous bunch, you even turn on your own kind. Read obama's books. He reveals his own racism, his distaste for white people. Don't buy them and give him any money, just check them out at the library.

Posted by: VBush Location: MHCY on Sep 1, 2008 at 01:04 PM
To all you libs bashing McCain and Bush over how they are handling the hurricane....What, if anything could they do that would make you happy? Probably nothing...so bash away. That is the problem with you Libs, you have no idea how a government is supposed to work. It was the local government in Louisiana that failed those people, Not the President of the United States! So now he is doing what you morons think he should be doing and you still trash him. I have noticed Ray Nagin's response is much different as well, but I don't see anyone bashing him. Of course the state is now led by a Republican Govenor and Bumbling Blanco is no where to be seen. Wake Up America!

On the day Hurricane Katrina made landfall three years ago, President Bush helped Senator John McCain celebrate his birthday with a cake. I guess not being an election year they had no reason to aid the Katrina victims. Bush and McCain now looks like a laughingstock

Posted by: TRUCKER Location: NC on Sep 1, 2008 at 10:28 AM
Well I see Bush and McBush is getting all of the mileage out of Gustav that they can. It is unbelievable as to what they will do to get votes. Now they can forget about telling US what their plans for America is, WOW what a convenience for them.

Posted by: Anonymous on Sep 1, 2008 at 09:13 AM
To Religious Right, Bush did nothing that he told the Religious Right he would do. You know what, they are going to vote for him again via McBush. What I don't understand is how the Religious Right supports such an evil\immoral man and still profess to being a Christen

Posted by: Religious RIght? on Sep 1, 2008 at 07:58 AM
I think there is some crazy excuse for the so called religious right to make it public that they support anyone...what did it do for America when the so called RR supported BUSH CHENEY???????? Their leader ship has been the worst in our country's history, they did nothing for pro life, nothing to bring prosperity and peace to our country and the world. THink Long and Hard.....don't get excited for more of the same. Go with your heart. I sure am. I go to church every weekend, and don't use that as any excuse to vote. Vote OBAMA BIDEN 2008

Posted by: TRUCKER Location: NC on Sep 1, 2008 at 07:45 AM
To Obama 08, Amen, I could not have said it better myself. We know why this country is divided and it always will be. Bush is in the Middle East where he does not belong saying he is freeing Iraq at our cost both in money and lives. H**L in eight years he never did a D**N thing here but spend our money on people outside the USA and cut programs here, and before anyone says anything, no I am not on welfare and the color of my skin does not matter. Bush is trying to free Iraq when he needs to be freeing America. "NO MORE BUSH and WE CAN DO IT HILLERY WITH YOUR HELP"

Posted by: Obama 08 4 Prez! on Sep 1, 2008 at 02:15 AM
I don't understand some of you people, i really don't. I give some of you to much credit. How could you honestly think Obama is getting black votes because he is black. Do you know how many black republicans are out there? I have a friend that is one, and everyday I ask him, what the h*ll is wrong with him? And for the 200th time, if all black people wanted was a black president we would have backed Jesse Jackson!!!! Besides Obama isn't even 100% black, his mom is white and he was raised by the white side of his family. That's like saying I'm not voting for Obama because he's black...and their are people that think that way. Or his pastor, or religion, or the gap in his wife's front teeth. Its ridiculous! Obama is getting votes because we believe he is qualified. No more Bush, No more Clinton, and McCain is Bush in McCain clothing. If you were blind and had never seen a color in your life none of this would matter. I'll be glad when this is over no matter who wins.

"GOOD LUCK WINNERS" LMAO

To VBush, You could not be more wrong if you tried. This dislike for Obama is because he is black. If you believe otherwise it is because you have blinders on and don't want to see the truth. Some of you think you have all the answers but the only one you are fooling is yourself. No one on this site knows Obama\Biden or McCain\Miss Alaska.

What keeps the B/W thing going is white people that are fed up with the so called civil rights that is nothing but REVERSE RACISM.But yet the whites have it crammed down thier throats all the time.

Well said, VBush. I don't care at all about race or gender. Just give me a competent conservative who will protect life and not support sin (gay marriage, etc.). I'm thrilled Sarah Palin was selected and I'm confident she will do well as our VP and, hopefully, President in 4 or 8 years. It's going to be a long time before the democrats are back in the White House!

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 31, 2008 at 04:54 PM
To Miss D, That saying about a successful man is referring to his wife not a co-worker. It seems like McCain has a wife to stand by him. That saying is as old as the hills.

Posted by: athiest Location: nc on Aug 31, 2008 at 04:53 PM
I am pro-life but I hardly think that Mccain/Palin will be able to overturn Roe vs. Wade-so why would I waste my vote on a couple of conservative (jacka***s) who will not change any of the problems Bush has created? Abortion is not the only issue at stake. And even worse if Mccain gets this stressful position how long will it be until he is dead and Palin starts running the country with her few years of experience? Race isn't an issue, gender isn't an issue, and religion isn't an issue. Obama with the help of the very experienced Biden will help this country change for the better.

Slightly Edited

Posted by: VBush Location: MHCY on Aug 31, 2008 at 04:51 PM
No Rights....Aren't you glad YOUR mother didn't have an abortion? The baby has rights given first by God and second by our constitution. If it weren't for the men in black legislating from the bench we would not be in half of the messes we are in. Do you realize if it were actually put to a vote instead of being decided in a court room that abortion never would have been legalized to begin with? I will have to give it some more thought.....you do make a good case for it.

Posted by: VBush Location: MHCY on Aug 31, 2008 at 02:41 PM
Kat, It isn't about race. The fact that Obama is black has nothing to do with it. If he were a conservative Republican he would get our votes. It's about his liberal socialist agenda.....that is the reason he will not be elected. If you simply will not vote for someone because he is of another race then you are the one with the problem. Obama would be bad for our country and so would Biden. Race is irrelevant.

To Kat, Do you know that it is because of people like you that keeps the B\W issue going. Just like Mr. Boob you need to be ignored, I hope you don't vote at all, it is because of people like that got this country in the mess it is in now. DO YOU KNOW HOW LONG THE BLACK MAN has hear the white man say MAYBE SOME DAY? NO I am not black, I am as white as snow and some times I am ashamed of being white but you know what I believe in God. Don't come back and say you believe in God too, you need to tell that to God not me because I would not believe you. I will copy this comment so I can send it to other people LIKE YOU "Obama/Biden 08

Anonymous; Whether or not you think it is acceptable is not the issue. If you 'support a woman's right to choose', then by the very support of that doctrine YOU DO find it acceptable.

Posted by: TRUCKER Location: NC on Aug 31, 2008 at 08:40 AM
To Anonymous, Please don't wast your breath on Mr. Boob some people you can't reason with, they refuse to admit that Obama is Afro American and that he is mot a Muslim. It is very rude to correct other speakers Mr. Boob. Anonymous you are 100% right "THERE IS NO MUSLIM RUNNING"

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 31, 2008 at 06:36 AM
VBush - I didn't say "I" thought it was acceptable. I said I think it's a womans choice not the governments. And Mr. Bob, I'm not voting for a Muslim (not Muslin) because there is not one running. Get your facts.

It is always amazing to me that a liberal finds it perfectly acceptable to kill a baby and yet is outraged by the death penalty for convicted murderers. Then and only then do they stand up for a 'human life'. We conservatives want to kill scum, you liberals want to kill our future.

I am so glad McCain took the advice to find someone politically unknown. She brings the 'change' everyone wants and will not back down to get that 'change'. If something were to happen to McCain she would not have any problems running this country. Her policital experience proves she can do the job. I am glad she is for pro-life. Every life is valuable regardless of the stage of life. Every woman has the right to choose, but not to take a life, which is what abortion is, murder. What defines murder in it's basic understanding? The taking of innocent life. A baby is innocent in its truest form. What right does a woman have to take the life of another for convenience sake?? Absolutely none.

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 30, 2008 at 07:44 PM
Mr. Bob. I'm not a welfare whining liberal, but I am proud to be a Liberal. Of course we all have the right think the way we want. Oh, and you're right mabe women (and men) need to take more responsiblility. But what they do about it is between their minds, their hearts, their bodies and their God and them, not some Concervative sitting in Washington. But this is the least of my worries right now. My concerns are having McBush and Miss Alaska run this country.. That's scary.

Posted by: Mr. Bob on Aug 30, 2008 at 06:45 PM

This is absurd. McCain is pandering to the far-right. I am a social conservative myself, pro-life especially, and I am morally outraged that he picked a person with such lousy credentials. God Forbid that anything happen to McCain and she takes over! He's 72 years old, and even if he's not dead, if he cannot function, then she will be taking his place. McCain has lost my vote, I'll be writing in Huckabee.

Posted by: Anonymous on Aug 30, 2008 at 03:10 PM
I'm not saying it's right or wrong, but I beleive a woman has the right the choose. I'm sure now all the Evangilcals or whatever they are will vote them in now, because this is Mccains game plan. Pick a Pentecostal as your running mate. They are the reason Bush is in the White House now. And look what the US has become.
