North Carolina's two major party candidates for governor are participating in their first live television debate.

Democrat Beverly Perdue and Republican Pat McCrory began discussing their plans for North Carolina Tuesday night in a debate broadcast by WTVD in Durham.

McCrory, who is the mayor of Charlotte, said in his opening statement the state needs to fix its crumbling roads, address a growing gang problem and root out government corruption.

Perdue, the lieutenant governor, said she's focused on improving the state's education system which, in turn, will bolster the state's economy.

The candidates last debated June 21 at the North Carolina Bar Association's annual meeting.

Obamination, we don't want her either in Raleigh or any government. I am a democrat now voting republican accross the board pretty much this year. I loathe what the liberals have done to the party. Yet people still vote for democrats and then say why can't we have prayer or a moment of silence, why can't we drill for oil off NC or why is gas so high and why do we have so many illegals in NC? It the liberal agenda. Easley or slezley wants to allow illegals into our colleges. Get it NC, it will go on and on and on until you figure what the party is shoving down your throat. Its all for you own good.

Somebody pullleeezzz vote to keep Bev in Raleigh. We really don't want her back here in Craven Co. Better yet, Obama should give her a job in his house after January LOL!

God help us if we get that Easley clone into the governor's office. Four more years of annual billion dollar tax increases. Wake up, NC.

Citizens in North Carolina WAKE UP! State Employees in North Carolina WAKE UP! Bev Perdue is a carbon copy of Mike Easley! Look at what she has NOT done for NC...look and see the huge salary increase she gave her staff when she became lt. gov. and what state employees did NOT get that year...last night her comments were all about her! Folks please VOTE FOR PAT MCCRORY!!! Go back and look at last nights debate if you missed it. You will see very plainly who should be our next governor...and it's NOT Bev! Good luck Pat from a democrat happy to vote for you!!!!!

Fact is that Easley backs Perdue and Obama. 3 peas in a rotten pod.

Why didn't WITN or any other NC station air this? This is important!!

We agree. WITN produced a debate last year, before the primary, inviting all the candidates. It aired on WITN and witn.com. Last night's debate was produced by WTVD and aired in the Triangle on WTVD. It was also streamed live on the station's website, abc11.com.

It was just a couple of weeks ago that Bev said she did not support drilling for oil. Now, she is for it? Which way is the wind blowing? She says that there is 33 million acres of land to drill on is like saying she personally knows where the oil is. She just proves again that she works for the Washington Left Democrats and doesn't care about this state. People, environmentalist have slowly been taking over our country at the cost of your tax money. Thats right, everything you do now days has cost associated with "save the planet", green movement. They say wind and solar? Not for years to come. Save the economy.
