A candidate for sheriff is facing criminal charges while he runs to become his county's top cop.
Ryan White of Rodanthe is running as a republican candidate for Dare County Sheriff. However, he has a court date just two days after the May 4 primary. White is facing charges of possession of marijuana up to a half-ounce, possession of drug paraphernalia and reckless driving.
White's scheduled court date Thursday was delayed, according to the Virginian Pilot. White is due in court now on May 6.
White is running against John Doughtie for the republican nomination for Dare County Sheriff. The winner will face off against the sitting sheriff, democrat Rodney Midgett.

if a covicted drug abuser manages to elected to sheriff....then the inmates truley are in charge of the prison.
To work in any law enforcement position you have to pass a drug test. Unfortunately that does not apply to the SHERIFF. He is an elected position, and really has few requirements, one that they live in the county.
