Commercial fishermen across eastern Carolina have been sounding off over enforcement of fisheries laws, saying it's putting their livelihood in jeopardy. Now there's a call for the man in charge of enforcing those laws to step down.
Third District Republican Congressman Walter Jones is among those calling on Dale Jones, the Director of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA) Office of Fisheries Law Enforcement - to resign his position.
The call comes after the Inspector General of the U.S. Department of Commerce recently released the findings of its 7-month investigation which found "systemic nationwide" problems with the way NOAA enforces U.S. fisheries laws.
Congressmen Jones is also calling a hold on all active prosecutions of fishermen until problems are resolved.

Kill 'em all, have a ball! I like to see turtles swimming...with potatoes and onions! Save a fisherman eat locally caught seafood! Friends don't let friends eat imported seafood. Commercial fisherman an endangered species. NMF= no more fishing. period, for anyone! when the fisherman are gone, who are you people going to blame then?
pirate91 the trawlers coming in to Oriental do not shrimp right there. they shrimp out in the sound or ocean. what you are seeing is from the little recreational fishing boats out there playing with their little gear. and don't forget the fish kills from lack of proper levels of O2, etc. i suggest you educate yourself on what, where and how trawlers operate before you make a comment that is completely false and unfounded. if you lived it you'd know it. they don't dump their by-catch as they are coming in to the dock or at the dock. they dump it overboard as they are sorting through it, out in the ocean or sound, and guess what? the crabs and other creatures eat them! doesn't that make you all warm and fuzzy?geeze. this is what kills me - people that are uneducated about something making statements for which they have no knowledge. I wonder, how many of you are members of the CCA? bet there are quite a few!
You go Dennis. Basnight should be removed from office due to corrupt riff raff he's been involved with for so many years deceiving the public. Walter B. Jones is a prime example of what a representative is suppose to be. He truly cares for North Carolina and it's people. Vote for conservatives who will use our vast wealth of natural resources. Drill here drill now and remove the enemy traitors in DC and state capitols!!! Remove the Muslim from the White House and vote for a real American who fought for & loves his country!!! Our complete US History & Christian heritage should be taught before anything else in schools and colleges. Remove those who oppose those things and lets get back to the way things ought to be. Too many in our nation have compromised their faith in God and have gone from doing what's right to doing everything that is wrong or evil. Folks, we have to literally turn or burn. God will repair the damages done by Obama & the liberals but we have to turn to him first.
