(Elizabeth City) Join the Museum of the Albemarle in remembering the effect Hurricane Katrina had on New Orleans in August of 2005 on Sunday, August 22, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gaither Auditorium through a personal insight by Lieutenant Tom Huntley. Lieutenant Tom Huntley is a Coast Guard MH-60 helicopter pilot stationed at Air Station Elizabeth City. Prior to attending flight training, he was a Deployable Team Leader at Maritime Safety and Security Team--Miami.

Less than twenty-four hours after Hurricane Katrina made landfall, LT Huntley and his team were on the ground in New Orleans to provide much needed security for urban search and rescue teams. LT Huntley's team was credited with saving over 125 people from the flooded sections of the Lower 9th Ward, as well as facilitating the safe and effective search of over six hundred buildings.

LT Huntley's presentation will include his first-hand account of inter-agency ground operations as well as an overview of Coast Guard rescue operations as a whole immediately following Hurricane Katrina. For more information contact 252-335-1453.
