A family trying to get a woman in labor to the hospital as fast as they could ended up with another need for emergency care. A teen in the car got shot in what police say is a case of road rage.

The shooting happened on US 17 in Edenton near the Virginia Road exit Sunday. Police tell us the car with the expectant mom was weaving in and out of traffic to get to Chowan Hospital as quickly as possible.

Detectives believe someone from another car got angry and fired a .38 caliber handgun. The bullet bruised the hip of a 17-year-old girl in the car. Her injuries were not serious.

Police have not yet found the car that fired the gun. Anyone with information on this case should call the Edenton Police Department at 252-482-5144.

Jake, they stated in the article that the family didn't want to be IDENTIFIED because of fear!! good job at blowing their spot. Now the majority of northeastern NC know who they are because it's a place where, like Cheers, everybody knows your name!!

Good job at reading the story there Jethro. If I have an emergency, I WILL weave through traffic if I need to. Dont know why people are criticizing the driver here. Everybody knows that cars with big rims have to go over rail road tracks at about 2mph. I dont have time to wait for some trunk rattling piece of crap to get out of the way because they think their car might fall apart.
