A charter school is being proposed for the Outer Banks to eliminate the hours spent going to and from school each day.
The Corolla Education Foundation says it's applying for a charter school on the Outer Banks in Currituck County. A public information meeting is Friday at 5:30, at the Pine Island Fire Station.
Students on the Outer Banks ride a bus two to three hours to school on the mainland.

I support the school 100%!! It is long over due and we should all support this major effort so Corolla can once again have children in the community!

I understand where the Corolla residents and children are coming from, having such a long way to go to get to Kitty Hawk Elementary, First Flight Middle and First Flight High School, but before First Flight came, they had to go even further to Manteo just to get to school. When I was in high school, we had people all the way from Corolla to East Lake and Stumpy Point come all the way to go to high school with us, and they did'nt get much time when it came to spare time. After all, Corolla is a village that's just a little bit bigger than Ocracoke in population and could use their own school. I feel like if they had a bridge to mainland Currituck County, there would not be as much of a need for that. There's two strong sides to this issue.

No child is on the bus 3hrs. This is just a way to try to get the school! They will have to drive them to charter school so drive them to public school! What it the kids move like they always do!? I am not going to let this happen. Sorry!
