While everyone enjoys being acknowledged for doing good work, the Better Business Bureau warns there are people who would be happy to do so at a price.
The BBB is warning small business owners of something called a vanity award.
Essentially, an owner will get an email saying they have won an award but must pay a fee to get the plaque.
The B.B.B. warns this is a scam just aimed at getting money for a made-up award that really holds no value.
If you think you have earned an honor, be skeptical if you have to pay for it.
To report this or any other perceived scam, you are encouraged to call 1-877-5-NO-SCAM. Or, you can file a consumer complaint online by clicking here.
