You may have noticed gas prices in some spots around eastern carolina are dropping. The national average has fallen 9 cents in the past week. Prices in North Carolina are about 19 cents lower than last month, but still nearly 18 cents higher than last year at this time. We found prices all over the place Monday in eastern carolina with a varying 50 cents between the highest and lowest prices, from $3.24 a gallon to $3.74. Those differences make customers like Jared Cain wonder what makes the pump prices fluctuate so much.
"You never understand what's going to cause it to go up and down. You think one thing would and one thing wouldn't, but then you look at how far away he election is and you think that might have something to do with it- but who knows," said Cain.
The national average has decreased 14.2 cents per gallon during the last month.
