Lottery Transfers $117 Million To State Public Schools

The N.C. Education Lottery has made its second transfer of lottery revenues to the state for fiscal 2013.

An announcement from the lottery says it transferred $117.4 million. That brings the total amount earned for education and the state since the lottery started almost seven years ago to $2.69 billion.

Monday's transfer combined with the one made in October adds up to $238.5 million in lottery proceeds for education during the first half of fiscal year 2013.

Last week, The Insider reported that Rep. Paul "Skip" Stam, R-Wake, said lawmakers would be considering a proposal to remove the word "Education" from the N.C. Education Lottery for advertising purposes. Stam said the word "education" shouldn't be used to sell "something that is essentially a scam,"
