Economy Adds 227,000 Jobs, Jobless Rate Unchanged

U.S. employers added 227,000 jobs in January to complete three of the best months of hiring since the recession began. The unemployment rate was unchanged, largely because more people streamed into the work force.

The Labor Department said Friday that the unemployment rate stayed at 8.3 percent last month, the lowest in three years.

And hiring in January and December was better than first thought. The government revised those figures to show 61,000 an additional jobs.

The economy has now generated an average of 245,000 jobs in the past three months. The only stretch better was since the recession began was in early 2010, when temporary Census jobs lifted payrolls.

The President Barack Obama's re-election chances, although he's still likely to face the highest unemployment rate of any post-war president.

Ever notice how the trolls seem to love misery so they can criticize obama. Job gains could double in the next few months and the unemployment drop below 5% and the trolls on here would be screaming " it is a lie"!

Just yesterday the entire Republican body voted AGAINST an amendment to a hydro-electric project that stipulated that all parts used on the project were to be made in America. That's because the republicans admire China's government and what it's built so much more. Did you read about Romney's comments loving on China today?? won't see that story especially on Fox and the so called liberal media.

Oh poor - Tis Tis Tis on Mar 9, 2012 at 09:29 PM. Nice spin try? If everything is Gov't controlled? Why are some many Chinese compaines on the world stock exchanges companies owned by stock shareholders. Companies out to make a profit, and to increase investor shareholder value? To most of us it is a real form of capitalism! The new ascendant Chinese capitalism. China has today been through a long process of capitalist restoration initiated three decades ago. The reforms began in 1978, and extended and deepened, progressively debilitating the mechanisms of the planned economy and received a decisive push from 1992 onwards. In the 1990s an unrestrained process of privatization of state companies and liberalization of public services took place. Nowadays, two thirds of wage-earners work already for private capital. At the beginning of the 21st century, China’s entrance into the World Trade Organization in 2001 culminated its process of reintegration into global capitalism. I made lots of $$$$$ on Chinese Stocks over the years. Where were you Tis buying lottery NC tickets LOL

One month of rosy jobs numbers could be a coincidence. Several fantastic reports in a row is a serious and welcome trend. The American economy is beginning to flex its muscle and get the country moving in the right direction again. Hiring is picking up, and there is every reason to believe it will continue unless partisan antics muck it up. And that is possible given that a weak economy is imperative for the Republican Party's chances in unseating Obama this fall. If these jobs figures continue, Obama will get another term. It's that simple. Obama s numbers are about to blow up!!!!!!

After 7 long years of losing 2 jobs through downsizing and mergers from 2003-2005 during Bush's administration, I am happy to say that I am finally back to working F/T again in a great job with a great group and great pay in the private sector. I temped for all those years but I never gave up. For those still unemployed believe me when I say it will get better for you. I pray every night for those like myself who lost their jobs through no fault of their own. Hang in there. Vote all GOP OUT!

I've seen estimates from $8-10 trillion of the deficit is directly attributable to Bush's policies and his wars.

guys, its simple math! the more we import, the more jobs and money we lose to other countries, & the more we export, the more money we make and create jobs ... we spend roughly $1.5 billion a day in foreign oil. lets keep that money home. Go Green ... Go Elecric !.

The primary factors driving the deficit are the Bush tax cuts which have lowered revenue without creating jobs. Interest on the debt, created primarily under republicans, and mostly by GW and Reagan. Decreased economic activity due to GW's wrecking of the economy, taxed at lower unproductive rates. Medicare part D which the republicans passed unfunded. Increased pressure on, and use of, safety net programs due to GW's wrecking of the economy. Yes, 80-90% of current deficits exist from the situation that Obama inherited from GW. America does not have a spending problem, it has a republican problem.

I LOVE IT BAYBEEEEEE! Listen to republicans with their grudgefulhearted praise for this great bit of news...227,000 jobs is good news! Just think, from losing 800,000 jobs a month when he took over, to a consistent 250,000 jobs a month now. That's a swing of a million jobs and is the main difference between the policies of President Obama and the failed policies of President Gilligan! Wonder what the numbers would have been if the GOp ever decided to actually HELP instead of OBSTRUCT!

Despite what your Right Wing Conservative doubters are saying, it looks that the Markets view this as good news as all the major indexes are in the green with solid numbers. Of course things could change as the day goes on but right now it appears that the markets don't share the GOP view that these numbers are doom and gloom.

According to the Federal Bureau of Labor. The day obama took office there were 16.2 million unemployed people in the country. 3 years and $6 trillion dollars later there are 16.5 million unemployed people. That is from obama's labor dept. More people have dropped out of the labor force under obama than anytime since the number has been tracked. If the labor participation rate was the same under obama as it was under Bush the unemployment rate would be 10.2%. Even MSNBC questioned the numbers this morning and had to admit that the zero in construction numbers and amount of low wage job replacements were troubling.

Great post! Funny, when I post facts and truth from Fox they dispute is but even MSNBC is struggling with attacking facts. Maybe we will see media return to reality but for now, ain't happening. Try the too....they do a good job at the truth. Hard to dispute a video of someone they pulled off Youtube taken from another news station that covered the story up....gotta love the News Nazis...

So you two think that those who lost their jobs in Jan., Feb., and March of 2009 were Obama's fault. He should have been able to come in and stop Bush's damage from day one? Are you nuts? Any one with any economic sense knows that trends take time-it was going down hill when Obama came in-first-he had to stop the bleeding-then start the return. And all this he had to do fighting the GOP the entire way because they didn't want him to succeed!!

You do know what 227,000 jobs mean to America, don't you? After successive years of 800,000 monthly jobs loss under the leadership of Bush and Republicans. Do you? Some how I don't think so. You are too Bushy trying to look good to really care that 227,000 Americans who didn't have a job now have a job.
