You could have some money coming your way, thanks to a class action lawsuit settlement.
The North Carolina Insurance Commissioner says nearly 305,000 people in North Carolina can collect cash from a settlement between Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company and affiliated companies and homeowner policyholders.
"We have heard that this class-action settlement may affect some 304,995 North Carolinians," said Commissioner Wayne Goodwin in a press release. "I encourage consumers who think they were affected to visit the settlement's Web site and submit a claim. You can only receive the settlement money you're owed if you submit the claim by the August 26 deadline."
According to the North Carolina Department of Insurance, the lawsuit alleges Nationwide underpaid policyholders by not including general contractors' overhead and profit when paying certain claims involving damage to a building or other structures. The press release says Nationwide maintains that it properly resolved and settled homeowner's claims but agreed to settle the suit to avoid the cost and distractions of prolonged litigation.
There is a deadline of August 26 to submit your claim to get the payout, if you qualify.
