North Carolina Democrats hold a big cash edge over state Republicans one week prior to the midterm elections. That's what campaign finance reports are showing.
Democrats report holding slightly more than a million dollars as of October 21st. That compares to 417-thousand-846 held by the Republicans. Parties and political candidates on the Novemvber seventh ballot had to file their third quarter reports with the State Board of Elections by the end of the day Monday.
Democrats have had a significant fundraising advantage since this election cycle began in 2005, raising more than four million dollars. That's more than three times the one-point-four million dollars collected by Republicans.
House Speaker Jim Black still hasn't released his campaign report. He's been a leading fundraiser for Democrats for years but appears to be struggling to raise cash as he's dogged by a series of legal troubles and ethical questions.
