Economy Affecting Pet Owners and Businesses

Prices of everything consumers use are making it hard on even Fido and fluffy in these difficult economic times.

Pet industry spokespeople say 71 million homes in the U.S. have pets and they spend about 60 billion dollars a year on them. But now calls to pet shelters from owners that can't afford their animals are on the rise. And as pet owners lose their pets, businesses that depend on them like groomers, trainers and pet stores suffer as well.

Your pets are part of the family. They are bonded to you. Getting rid of your pet because you can't afford to feed them is a crock. Cut out the Latte's and the small extras, like the extra trip to the store for ice cream or learn how to make do with less yourself. Our society is so self motivated that we think everything is disposable! Would you leave your husband on someone's doorstep or kick him out?

I just don't understand why they can't keep their pets. They are part of the family. Would you get rid of a kid because you think you can't afford that kid? I think not. These pets depend on us. Go the extra mile for them, they sure would for you. I know things are hard, but try for their sakes.
