The founder of Samaritan's Feet charity says he's walking barefoot from Charlotte to Atlanta in an effort to put 300,000 pairs of shoes on the feet of needy children around the world.
Nigerian native Emmanuel "Manny" Ohonme started his journey Saturday in Charlotte, where he founded the charity. By Monday afternoon, he was in Gaffney, S.C. He plans to reach Atlanta on Oct. 26.
Ohonme told The Charlotte Observer he already had major blisters. But he noted children living in poverty must walk barefoot every day.
The mission of his Christian-based charity is to send 10 million shoes in 10 years to children living in poverty.
He's asking residents worldwide to walk one mile Oct. 25 and hopes to raise $1 million through pledges.
