Some employees at a plant in the east that saw tragedy in recent years are helping out some area charities.
West Pharmaceutical Services, which has a plant in Kinston, participated again in the "West without Borders" philanthropic initiative, which is designed to empower employees to give back to the areas where they live and work.
Kinston employees raised more than $25,000 for three local charities through bake sales, raffles and other events.
Shriners Hospital for Children will get just over $12,000, Book Bag Buddies, a program to help school kids in need in Lenoir County, and Dare 2B Different, an after-school program for at-risk youth will split the rest.
It was back in 2003 that an explosion at the Kinston plant killed six people and injured nearly forty more.
