Volunteers Building Home In Pamlico County For Free For Wounded Warrior

By the end of the summer, a wounded Marine Veteran and his family will have keys to a brand new house here in the east, mortgage free.

Volunteers from all over the state are working and sweating hard to make sure a deserving family has a brand new--handicapped accessible house in Pamlico County.

Military Mission in Action-the non-profit organization that is putting this project together, has not yet chosen the family who will hold the keys to this home, but they have narrowed it down to three very deserving wounded warriors.

Volunteer Jim Abernathy says, "A lot of people have a good heart, and they want to help others, and who better to help than veterans."

From the land, to the construction--people from all over the state have stepped up to give back to that family--through donations and volunteering their time.

Volunteer Michael Doman says, "We're building a home for a Marine who was injured in Afghanistan. At the end of the summer we're going to give it to him and his family. It's going to be mortgage free so they can start a new life here in Pamlico County."

Thanks to all the help from the community--the project is moving along quickly. They're getting a month's worth of work done in a few short days.

Over the next few days, organizers are doing face-to-face interviews with the three candidate families.

The house should be finished by August 15th.
