Reports indicate a school in eastern North Carolina was going to forfeit a JV football game because the other team had a female player.
Tidewater News reported Northeast Academy in Northampton County told Southampton Academy of Courtland, Virginia that if eighth-grader Mina Johnson was on the team, Northeast would not participate in the game.
Northeast Academy is part of the North Carolina Independent Schools Athletic Association, which does not allow girls to play football on a boys’ team.
Tidewater is also reporting North Carolina’s Word of God Christian Academy in Raleigh may also not play Southampton, that's according to Southampton’s athletics director.
Johnson did not play in the Northeast game October 6 in Courtland, Virginia. Southampton beat Northeast 60 to 0.
