Proposed Changes To Crackdown On Food Stamp Fraud

The Department of Agriculture proposing new rules to crackdown on food stamp fraud.

The U-S-D-A says the SNAP cards that are issued are turning up in increasing numbers on Craigslist and ebay.

Even some stores are trading the food stamps for cash, which is illegal.

New rules proposed Thursday would give states the option to put food stamp recipients under closer scrutiny if they continually request replacement cards.

Investigators say that's a sign the cards are being sold.

The states would have to determine what constitutes a frequent request.

Penalties would include fines or a disqualification, while stores would be kicked off the program.
