Last week, the state declared no smoking in bars and restaurants And Monday night, the issue of smoking in Pitt County buildings was brought to the commissioners meeting.

After a number of complaints from non-smoking county workers, Pitt County commissioners discussed the idea of banning smoking in all county buildings. There are two county buildings that have a break room for smokers. Currently, the decision to allow employees to smoke is made by the department head, but this is something the commissioners say may be changed in order to have a more consistent work environment.

No decision was made Monday night as to whether smoking will be banned in county buildings, but commissioners say county employees will need to create a policy on a smoking ban and present it to the committee for them to discuss.
