Since the Colorado shooting last week, there has been an increase in gun sales in parts of the country. We checked with a local gun and pawn shop about recent sales.
Colt Page of Colt's Guns and Pawn in Greenville says a a lot of people have come in to look at guns since Friday's shooting, and in the last three to four months sales have quadrupled. Nationwide, some shops had a 300 percent increase in sales in the three days after the Colorado movie theater shooting. In Pitt County, Sheriff's officials say the number of permits to carry or buy firearms also went up this year, especially after the Farmville triple murder. As for the slight increase in Pitt county due to the Colorado shootings there's no direct correlation. Page says they've had more people come in, but not just to buy weapons.
"A lot of people come in like hey, I want to purchase something and then in the next breath, they're like how can , where can I learn how to use it," said Page.
Before you get a carry and conceal permit in our state, you have to take 8 hours of instruction and at least 2 hours of firing range practice. We're told more instructors, are seeing and increase of participation, particularly women.
