Operation Medicine Drop This Weekend

In conjunction with National Poison Prevention Week, many locations across Eastern Carolina will be participating in "Operation Medicine Drop" this weekend.

The event is a chance for people to turn in unused prescriptions.

Many times, officials say the prescriptions end up getting flushed and can make their way into the water supply. Police also say the drugs can make your home a target for thieves who are looking for them.

Last year more than 4 million doses were collected at almost 300 events.

This year's collection is Saturday, March 24th. You can click on the related link below to find a location near you.

This is another Dale, I was the one in the blue shirt in the back of the canoe in the video. The good news is that all the pills are removed from their original containers. All personal information is removed from the containers. Both are properly disposed of. I have helped with this program in the past. I became a real supporter when I found out how many thousands of pills we collected.

I think medicine drop is a great idea, but in the same respect, the contents of the containers should be emptied out and seperated from the containers. Unfortunatley all person's aren't trustworthy.

A well-done story. And, it contains an IMPORTANT message for all of us. Our waters are a precious commodity and we need to take care of them.
