RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- The chairman of the North Carolina Democratic Party isn't stepping down from his position in the fallout over harassment allegations at party headquarters. But he says a meeting of the party's governing body in two months will determine his future.
Chairman David Parker wrote Wednesday to party activists saying the party's State Executive Committee will meet June 17 and vote whether he should continue as chairman. The Associated Press obtained a copy of an email Parker is sending to committee members.
Parker said there will be an election that day if other candidates seek to challenge him.
Parker said he's remaining on the job for now despite calls for his resignation from Gov. Beverly Perdue and other high-ranking Democrats. He said members of the party's smaller Executive Council back him.
