NBC's "Chicago Fire" Returns

(NBC News) NBC's "Chicago Fire" starts its second season tonight.

It will now air on NBC on Tuesday nights at 10pm eastern right after "The Voice".

The second season offers more explosive action along with emotional fireworks as well.

"It won't stop. They always seem to entertain a certain amount of chaos for good or ill. Even if things are going well, they'll sabotage something. In order to create some drama," said series stars Taylor Kinney and Jesse Spencer.

For firefighter Severide, it's impending fatherhood but with an old girlfriend rather than his paramedic best friend.

"It's just figuring out what do you do in life when the one thing you want so badly doesn't sort of come through," said actress Lauren German.

Firefighter Casey meanwhile, is coping with losing the love of his life.

"He's going to throw himself back into the work. And back into his firehouse family. And try to work his way out of it," said actor Jesse Spencer who plays Casey.

For the show's cast, having real life Chicago firefighters as a near constant presence on the set has provided a bonding experience.

"We hang out on weekends. We have beers with them, we go to bears games. We go to cubs games; It's part of a second family now," Kinney said.

And the family of viewers for "Chicago Fire" will likely grow this season with a new time slot behind "The Voice".

"It's going to open us up to a whole new audience that is hopefully going to connect with our show and that's great. I don't think we could ask for anything better," Spencer said.

"Chicago Fire's" first season success was so solid that NBC's also already ordered a spinoff series, "Chicago PD", which will debut this winter.
