Now that the ceremony for the inauguration is over, a few people have hit rewind and reconsidered the idea of Beyonce' lip synching the national anthem. Wednesday, WITN's Carly Swain asked for feedback on the performance.
The Marine Corps Band said Beyonce' was lip synching her rendition of the inaugural musical moment. According to the public affairs chief for the United States Marine Band: "The singer decided herself to use the back up track, including vocals and music from the band."
All music used in inaugural events is prerecorded just in case, but did the revelation ruin it for you?
Carly asked some people in Craven County, and here's what they said:
"Well, actually I did think it was kind of a surprise. I thought she would be singing."
"Nobody would have known the difference, you know?
"You've been in the business for well over a decade, you should know better. "
"Kelly Clarkson sang. I don't think she lip synched."
"She's a superstar, you know. So she can afford to save her voice now and then."
Some have asked, just for the sake of honesty, why was there not a graphic on the screen that said the performance was prerecorded.
There was no word yet late Wednesday addressing the decision to lip synch the song from Beyonce' or her representatives.
WASHINGTON (CNN) —Pop star Beyonce opted to use a “pre-recording” of her rendition of the National Anthem during inaugural ceremonies in Washington Monday, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Marine Band tells CNN.
“We don’t know why the decision was made,” U.S. Marine Band spokeswoman Kristen DuBois said. “She did not actually sing,” DuBois added, noting Beyonce lip-synched her own voice.
DuBois said Beyonce “pre-recorded” the song the evening before Inauguration Day, after rehearsing with the U.S. Marine Band.
According to the band’s spokeswoman, such pre-recordings are “not unusual.”
Recording musical performances prior to inauguration ceremonies are a necessity in case something should go awry, says DuBois.
“You can’t have an inaugural without the National Anthem.”
American cellist Yo-Yo Ma was forced to use a pre-recording during President Obama’s first Inaugural four years ago, due to frigid temperatures.
“We all know Beyonce can sing and the Marine Band can play,” DuBois said. “I’ve been with the band 14 years. It’s not unusual,” DuBois added.
Many inauguration viewers may have also noticed Beyonce pulled her ear piece out during her performance. But DuBois did not have an explanation as to why the pop star removed the ear piece.
