Man Arrested For Allegedly Cooking & Eating Cats

In a case that has shocked even investigators, a California man is in jail for allegedly cooking and eating cats.

Jason Louis Wilmert is being held in the Kern County Jail on charges alleging animal cruelty and using a pet or domesticated animal for food. Both charges are misdemeanors.

Neighbors called sheriff's deputies when they heard cats wailing and screeching at the 36-year-old's house in the Bakersfield suburb of Oildale.

Sheriff's spokesman Ray Pruitt says he has "never seen anything like this."

Pruitt says investigators found evidence that led them to believe "he had the intent to use a cat for food," but he couldn't comment directly on the evidence. The case has been sent to the district attorney.

Wilmert is scheduled for arraignment on Friday.

I watched the video. I still don't understand. They were his pets. People raise "pet" rabbits and eat them. People have "pet" chickens, deer, and other animals and eat them. If he euthanized them humanely then what's the big deal. I find it disgusting, but I know I don't want others to control what I eat because of their own beliefs.

How in the world can they arrest/charge him with a crime because he intended to eat a cat. I dont care for hog heads with the eyes still in them but, I have been to a few pig pickings where they left the hogs head intact. Doesnt mean they should be arrested. Its no worse then eating possums, squirrles, and coons

Go to your local Chineses Rest and ask to see their receipts from where they purchased the chicken, I am pretty sure the totals won't add up.... JUST SAYING!

Did you seriously just turn an article about eating cats to something about blaming Obama? Seriously? Have you ever thought that maybe he just liked the taste of cats? I like how we use the double standards of eating animals in this country. Pigs and cows are domesticated animals as well. People still eat them too. Why is eating a cat criminalized? The only thing you can possibly charge him with is being inhumane to the keeping of the animals. Otherwise, California fail.

Yes, because the entire state is responsible for this one man's weirdness. Of course.

I'm not a huge animal right person although I've had several pets. So why all the jokes, cats are just as nice as dogs. If this person was cooking up puppy dogs this blog would be blowing up! I guess if you have no food then you do what you gotta do, but if you do this in lue eating the steak in your refrigerator your a nut!

Oh I wanted to add... should I be commenting about the two stories I saw up here about guys having sexual relations with dogs being "typical NC"? I bet that generalization doesn't sound so good when you look at it that way, does it?
