A local chef is getting as honored as one of the best in her field.
Vivian Howard of Kinston's "Chef And The Farmer" has been named as a semi-finalist in the category of Best Chef in the Southeast, in the prestigious honors distributed by the James Beard Foundation.
Howard is one of 20 semi-finalists up for the award, and it may be a bright spot in what's been a rough patch for her restaurant.
A kitchen fire has forced "Chef And The Farmer" to renovate. Their website doesn't give an exact date to reopen, but they say it will happen sometime this spring.
