SHERIFF: Store Owner Kills Two Brothers During Robbery

Two brothers were killed as they were robbing a Gates County store, that's according to Sheriff Edward Webb.

It happened at the Joppa Store around 6:00 p.m. Tuesday. The store is located at the intersection of Acorn Hill Road and Joppa Road.

Sheriff Webb identifies the dead men as Quintin and Eddie Felton of the Windfall community. The brothers were 18 and 19 years old.

The sheriff says store owner Duanne Ammann was treated and released last night with a black eye, bruises and sore ribs.

Authorities say the 60-year-old Ammann was alone in the store when the two men came inside, one who was armed with a rifle. Webb says Eddie Felton put the gun to the face of the owner and said, "Give me money or I'll kill you." The owner pushed the rifle away, got the money from the register and then was beaten to the ground.

Webb says Ammann was able to reach for his weapon and shoot the two robbers. One was shot while still in the store while the other was shot through the window. Webb says five shots were fired.

The sheriff says was one of the brothers was found dead next to the store, and the other was discovered not far away near some woods. Around $250 in cash was found on the two men.

Webb says it is possible a third person dropped off the two brothers and anyone with information on that should call the Sheriff's Office.

The store remains closed today, while Webb says they'll turn the investigation results over to the district attorney who will decide what course of action is appropriate.
