Laid-Off Woman Lands $4 Million NC Lottery Prize

A Raleigh woman who lost her job as a receptionist after 22 years is collecting a very big check thanks to a new game from the North Carolina Education Lottery.

Two days after she lost her job, 39-year-old Camelia McClain stopped at a convenience store and bought two $20 tickets in the $4 Million Cash Blowout game. McClain said she played the game because it was new.

One of the tickets made her the first top prize winner in the game, which launched Jan. 10.

McClain opted to claim the prize in annuity payments of $200,000 over a 20-year period. After taxes, she has received her first check for $136,006.

McClain said her family would gather as it always does and decide what to do with the money.

When the rich people take chances and end up bankrupting a company, it's capitalism and just part of trying to make it, when a person on unemployment takes a chance and makes it big, she's stupid for trying. The stupidity people have will never cease to amaze me.

Congrats to her ! Some folks get their "kicks" from being jerks on internet forums and some folks (like me) get their kicks from playing the lotto and winning. Im proud to be in the second group. The first group is pathetic, smh.

My Gosh! The woman worked for 22 years. I'm sure she received whatever money she had in her retirement funds as well as getting paid back for any sick leave she accrued over the years. Aside from what her financial stand point was, it's no one's business how she spends her money. Half the UNEMPLOYED spend their money on dime bags and eight balls! What's the differene in her paying for a stinking lottery ticket!! Hope she enjoys herself!
