Kinston Native Advances On American Idol

A star may have been born from here in the east after her performance on American Idol

Kinston native Ashlee Altise made it through auditions and onto Hollywood.

She most recently worked at the Goody's store in Vernon Park Mall. Co-workers tell us she's always been a joy to work with-- and while they were surprised to see her on TV-- they were not surprised to see her do so well. They've heard Altise belting it out a few times in their store.

Co-workers say they don't know how far Altise made it yet-- they haven't been able to get in touch with her.

It's horrible how some of ya'll come up here and bash the girl! And you say that the show is for people who don't have a life, well if ya'll come up here to dog her then you all do not have a life. I think ya'll are just jealous. And jealously is a horrible thing. Be proud of her she is going to Hollywood to pursue her dream. Way to go Ashley I hope you make it all the way! And for the rest of you stay away from the green eyed monster! :)

NC may not be well known for much, but we produce a lot of good singers! Seems like someone from here has been on AI, making it pretty far, every season.

I really hope she makes it. Idol does have a way of doing make overs and helping to take contestants to another level. Good Luck.

I think that she was great. When I saw her on WITN News, I did not even recognize her. She looked much more classy than she did during her audition. I think she should show up in Hollywood with her classy look. It makes her look much more serious. Having said that, I hope she makes it a long way!!!

@Jennifer...I don't know Ashlee but I suspect that she is a wonderful person and I wish her the best. As for you...I think that was a nasty thing to say about someone publicly even if you felt that way.

She was not from Kinston, she was from Belhaven and she was not ripped off by Carole King. Carole King and Gerry Goffin wrote the song Loco- Motion and "allowed" her to record it. She did not write the song. They allowed her to record it while she was a nanny for King and Goffin.
