Justice Department Considers Blocking SEAL Book Release

The Pentagon and the CIA are looking at a book that's supposed to be published next month, on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. It's written by a former Navy SEAL who took part in the raid that killed Osama bin Laden.

Officials want to know if he's releasing any classified information.

The former SEAL didn't submit the book for review ahead of time, as the military says he is required to do. If it turns out there's classified information there, the Pentagon says it will turn the matter over to the Department of Justice. And the former SEAL could face criminal charges.

A special operations advocacy group, which is criticizing President Barack Obama over alleged leaks, has asked the attorney general to block the release of the book until the government can make sure it reveals no classified information. The Justice Department says it's reviewing that request.

The book's publisher has said it will "set the record straight" on the bin Laden operation.

With the help of all of the publicity the book is getting, it shot to the top of the Amazon.com chart, reaching the number-one spot Friday.
