It may seem hard to believe here in Eastern Carolina where hog farms seem to be everywhere, but there's a warning of a possible shortage of pork products.
The National Pig Association in Britain says pig herds throughout Europe are on the decline, which means fewer pork items are showing up in stores, and the problem could eventually hit the U.S.
The problem is believed to be caused by this year's drought that devastated the corn and soybean crops in the Midwest. But some Duplin County corn farmers disagree, They say while the cost of the feed is more expensive this year, they don't believe that that will cause a shortage in pork.
Corn farmer Donnie Tucker says, "I wouldn't worry about no shortage of no bacon. It just might cost you a little bit to have a piece."
Tucker says, he and other Carolina farmers are actually benefitting from the high prices of the feed. Since Eastern Carolina had significant rainfall this year, many areas are now having to buy corn from Carolina farmers.
