An organization that provides meals for those in need expects they'll see more people in the coming days as the temperatures increase and they look for a hot meal in a cool environment.
People gathered for lunch at Hope Mission in Morehead City in Carteret County Thursday and Executive Director Gene McLendon says they see an increase in people coming through their doors on hot days.
On average around 90 people come in for lunch Monday through Saturday, but on hot recent hot days they've had as many as 120.
Pastor McLendon says, "If we have a heatwave coming in we'll just open up the place and let people come in and have tea and cookies in the afternoon."
Pastor McLendon says they haven't made a decision just yet on if they will do this during the up coming heat wave.
