Katrina Parker now lives in Los Angeles but she's from Holly Ridge in Onslow County and is in the spotlight on the hit NBC singing contest "The Voice."
Parker told WITN she was born to sing. "From a young age I've always loved music. I grew up in the Baptist church where music was everywhere. I love to sing. I love to play the piano. And my parents, my teachers, everyone really encouraged that in me."
You wouldn't know it to hear her sing, but this Jacksonville High School grad has overcome some odds to make it this far, including a childhood speech impediment. "It took me five years of speech therapy but you know, you can pretty much get past anything, you can conquer anything. You just have to be patient and you have to have hope."
Parker has a lot to hope for since "The Voice" coach Adam Levine picked her on the show.
Parker says she's trying to take it all in. "I think the best part is talking to my relatives, my dad, my friends from home. And just seeing the sheer joy."
You can watch "The Voice Monday night at 8:00 p.m. on WITN.
