The unusually cold and snowy January is translating into higher utility bills that people are now getting in the mail
Greenville Utilities warned customers this could happen.
GUC says in the month of January they broke an energy consumption record as high temperatures many days were in the 20's with lows in the single digits.
Andy Yakim with GUC energy services says they've had a large increase of calls from concerned residents. One said her bill went from $120.00 to over $800.00 in one month.
Yakim says for customers who are interested in avoiding spikes in their utility bills-- look into a program called equal pay. With this bill payment option, customers pay the same amount for 12 consecutive months based on the average of their bills from the year before.
