Greenville Woman Charged With Leaving Young Kids Home Alone

A Greenville woman was jailed early Friday on child abuse charges, launching an investigation by the Department of Social Services.

Police say they were called to 106 Meade St. at 2 a.m. Friday when they got a call about two young children home alone. A neighbor told detectives that the two-year-old and four-year-old boys came to his house to ask for help because their mother, 29-year-old Amanda Davis, was not home.

Police said Davis had reportedly last been seen at a bar. Police say Davis came home when they reached her on the phone. When she arrived, police say she was drunk and belligerent to the officers. She was charged with two counts of Misdemeanor Child Abuse by creating an unsafe and dangerous environment.

The children were given to their grandmother for safekeeping. Police say the boys' father came from New Bern after police called him about the arrest.

Police say Davis was charged with DWI and Driving While License Revoked less than one month ago, on June 29. She also has prior arrests for DWI and Assault.

Davis was jailed under a $1,000 bond, and the Department of Social Services is now investigating her.
