Two organizations at ECU are teaming up to fight hunger in the area through a project called "empty bowls."
Friday at ECU students and members of the community were able to stop in and enjoy a soup lunch. Tickets were $15.00, which also included a handcrafted bowl.
This is the first time for the university to host the project but organizers say they hope it won't be the last. Organizer Amanda Murphy says, "One in seven Americans doesn't know where their next meal is coming from. They suffer from some sort of food insecurity so the more that we can help the better."
Murphy says they sold nearly 200 handcrafted bowls, which she hopes will serve as a reminder of all the empty bowls in the world.
All proceeds from the event will benefit the Greenville Homeless Shelter and Food Bank.
