Convenience Store Owners Hope Security Measures Deter Violence

As the Pitt County Sheriff's office investigates the triple murder at a Farmville convenience store Sunday- we wanted to know what local convenience stores do to try to keep their employees safe.

In Craven County at Buzzard's Corner, manager Ruth Williams says they have security cameras and always work in pairs to help keep their employees safe. At Express Way on Highway 70 in Havelock owner Nick Patel showed us their security cameras throughout the store. Patel says they close at 10:00 p.m. as a safety precaution.

"We close our business at 10, because after 10 people are drinking , coming out,up to no good, so we just close it at 10 no matter what. On Friday and Saturday we stay open until 11, but we have 2 people in here most of the time."

Both Patel and Williams say they tell employees to do what they're asked in an event of a robbery because their lives are more important than money.
