DEPUTIES: Cold Ear-Biting Case Solved After Recent Similar Crime

A recent case of an ear-biting bar fight has led to an arrest in a cold case with very similar circumstances.

Carteret County deputies had closed the books on the 2010 assault of Wesley Osborne, who was jumped by several men at the "Riptidez" bar in Cedar Point. The 30-year-old victim lost the lower portion of his right ear. His attacker, according to deputies, spit it out in his hand and took off with the ear.

The attack left Osborne permanently disfigured. No one knew the name of the attacker, but the victim said he still remembered what the man looked like.

Deputies believe the recent case at the Redneck Saloon prompted someone to call Crime-Stoppers with the name of the man is allegedly attacked Osborne. Zachary Brown of Hubert was charged with maiming without malice.

Brown is also facing unrelated charged in Onslow County. He was released on bond and has a June 15th court date in Carteret County.
