An Emerald Isle boy who died in a skateboarding accident earlier this year was honored Wednesday at his school's football game.
13-Year old Drew Hughes' jersey was retired at Broad Creek Middle School during halftime of their game against Newport during "Do It For Drew Day."
Drew's accident was back in June. His parents, brothers, and grandfather were at the game Wednesday to accept his retired jersey and a frame with pictures of Drew during his time at Broad Creek. His jersey number will also be displayed inside the school in a frame.
The family urges people to wear helmets while skateboarding and biking.
