Alcohol Agents Arrest 261 People During Azalea Festival

Hundreds of people were arrested this weekend in Wilmington by state alcohol agents for underage drinking violations.

An estimated 300,000 people attended this weekend's North Carolina Azalea Festival and 15 Alcohol Law Enforcement agents were looking for violations.

ALE says 261 people were arrested or cited for underage drinking charges, marijuana possession and using fake IDs. "Our goal was to ensure a safe Azalea Festival for those visiting Wilmington and for residents as well," said Bill Berryhill, special agent in charge of the ALE district office in Wilmington.

Two Wilmington businesses were also charged with violating ABC laws involving those under 21 years old.
